Hi,

I have the queen angel for 5 days now, and I notice that there is something growing on the side of the fish. Is it infection? Should I treat it with Maracyn Two?

Thank you for the time,

Calvin

Thank you for the reply.

It has been noticed for 3 or 4 days. When I look at it closer, it looks like little fungus.

Thank you for the link, and I do not know if I should feel peaceful or worry at this point. Hopefully, it will not spread to other fishes.

Can you remove the queen and place in a QT for observation??

just a thought.

Hello Calvin,
I agree with NC2WA that a quarantine would be your next step next to getting a proper ID.
Would it be possible for you to get a better/closer picture of the infected area?
Thanks, Frank.

The queen is in the QT with other fishes. I have already removed all other fishes (purple tang and percula clown). I am going to take the closer pic tomorrow with better lighting. Thank you for the infor, and appreciate for the concern and time.

is the fish eating in the QT?

if so, make sure you soak your feed with vitamins and some type of fatty lipid (that is, selcon or zoecon).

It looks closely to lympho and do not believe Maracyn II will have any effect.

i was able to find some old threads where Lee (leebca) gave recommendations on treatment. Good nutrition and the best water quality seemed to be his response.

I'm not convinced of this being a virus. It could be a fake fungus. Many adult Angels are susceptible to these kinds of infections. A real fungus infection is between hard and impossible to cure. I've put down many fishes I have diagnosed with true fungus because of how easily it spreads.

The fake fungus is difficult to hard to eradicate. Nutrition is important, so hopefully the fish is eating. Water quality is essential to recovery. In this case, Nifurpirinol [a.k.a. Furanace] (which will affect nitrification) and which is combined with Neomycin (a gram negative antibiotic)) has shown some success.

Others have had some success by synthesizing the fish and applying surface treatments including Betadiene or the product Bio-Bandage.

This thread may provide more info on this matter: Fungal Infections Thread

If all the above is an in correct diagnosis, then one other possibility is that this is a fluke, worm, or parasite of a higher order.

The fish is eating, and I will change 10% water tomorrow. Thank you for the info.

Before putting in the tank, 10 min freshwater dip. Coppersafe and prazipro were added in the QT. Hopefully, no issue with fluke or parasite.
