Queen Conach

I have this Queen Conch and and she was just doing fine. Then I notice she was not moving, staying in one spot and did not move for weeks I thought she had died. I would clean the tank the her shell would roll over and she was tucked in the shell. Stayed like that for weeks, something told me not to remove her from the tank. I just notice she was sticking her little feelers out there but not really moving around too much.

She is alive, but I am curious do they hibernate or something for a period of time?

Idgy...When I saw the topic earlier and it read, "Queen Conach" I said to myself I better leave alone because that one is way out of my league...I have no idea what the "H" a "conach" is (LOL). I got curious and decided to see what it was and it was a "Conch" HA!! I do the same thing sometimes so don't feel bad (LOL)

I've never heard about a queen conch or any conch hybernating. They may, I just never heard of it. The only thing I know about queen conch's living here in the Bahamas, is you don't eat them! They are poisonous and will give you the poops!! So if you think he's dead, don't try and make any conch salad...You will regret it 50lbs lighter later (LOL)

They will sit around sometimes and do nothing, although I've never had one do it for quite that long. I've had conches sit in one spot for over a week after adding them to the tank though; they're a little sensitive to water chemistry changes. Test your water; make sure your pH, alkalinity and nitrates are in good shape.

I had a humpback cowry for a few years in my tank, he ate like a pig. They are both seaweed eaters though I don't know if they are similar in any other respects. I had to give him seaweed I collected from tide pools although he accepted leafy green vegies and nori. He didn't like sand very much though and I had to put him on a rock and make bridges across the substrate for him to roam particularly at night when he was active. If he got stuck on the substrate I would have to lift him off and put him back on a rock or some greens before he'd get going again. Water quality wasn't great all the time, maybe a water change a month no dosing with the tank at about 1.025 - 1.027 more on the higher end. Temp about 80 - 82

He was one of the toughest things I ever had, even survived a box fish nuke.
