I've got a rio 2100 Power head and it doesn't kick on during start up unless
I bump it etc. and then it kicks on ..
Does it need to be periodically , Lubricated ??
Here's a closeup shot of it.........
Seems like it would so it doesn't stick..............

Could be calcium buildup on the impeller, magnet could be getting weak, shouldn't need to be hit to start up. Soak it in vinegar for 24hrs and try it again. The whole pump and impeller. White vinegar.

Or use a muriatic acid solution.

Mix 50/50 muriatic acid and water and soak the impeller and pump in it.

Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area though

i too had the rio do that. i tried everything. i believe the inside hole and the magnet get worn and start to lose its lubrication? . i used it for mixing water. sooner or later it wont work. are you using that rio for a return? better find a return pump soon.

I just got a hold of the guy at "Marine Depot" and I've heard of this before . The round
Magnetic part that is below the fins is worn and therefore can't move freely. And it does
look to be worn upon close inspection..
Apparently, self lubricating with contact from the water itself..
The darn part itself, is about half the price of what this whole thing cost so......

These pumps are known for those issues, If you replace it get an Eheim or Mag depending on what your using it for. The inside housing should be well cleaned, It looks clean from the photos so maybe it is worn.
