Ok i was at the lfs today picking up some ro water and some other things. I picked this stuff up called aiptasia control it was made by blue vet r/k. I know everyone talkes about joes juice i wanted to know if anyone has ever used this or not...We used it at the lfs and it killed the aiptasia so i guess it works.. And another question how often will i have to use this stuff?? will they keep coming back??? what causes them???? Thats all of the questions for now hope someone will help me out......

Brady,

I've never heard of "Aiptasia Control by Blue Vet"... sorry. I'm sure there are more products out there besides Joe's Juice that work every bit as well... so thats not a worry. Afterall, even a shot of boiling water or a Kalk-paste will work to kill those little buggers.

As for how often... that depends on how infested your tank is. The more you have, the more often you will end up needing to re-apply. As long as there is one in your tank, it will spread, and you will need to keep killing them off. Eventually, they will all die, as long as you keep at it. Its worth the work though!

What causes them? In my experience, they have always come in on a piece of Live Rock, then spread from there. Once I managed to get to all of them to dose them, that has always been the end of it for me... and they never return after that.

i seen a few on the live rock when i picked the stuff out at the lfs and didnt think anything of it. Now i have maybe 8 or so i got all of them so we will see how long they will be gone...

Sounds good! If you do notice some small ones starting back up again (even a sliver of one, can settle and start growing again), just get back in there and dose it again... and soon you should be aiptasia free! :D

I dont worry about them or go out of my way to kill them. I use them as "funk meters". They'll let you know where the build up is in your tank. After you take care of the build up they will quicky die on their own.

I have also never heard of it. Just me but I am skeptical and never add anything like that to my tank. The ones that came on some LR in my tank dissappeared with a blast of hot water.

Last time I checked,
2 of the 3 stores I visit on Seattle's Eastside didn't have any Joe's Juice! only SWC had the real juice--the other 2 only had the aforementioned Blue Vet Apt. Control...
I'd be curious to see if it works though...

SueT no it doesnt say whats in it dont know why.. i know its a white substance the guy said its just like joes juice..

Let me guess it says somthing like "shake well" and "close lid after use". Its white and has a ph of 12.5.:)

I was thinking the exact same thing..Don.. Seems everyone is making a kalk. paste and calling it whatever they want to. I guess long as it works, but I can make my own.

I've always had good luck with plain old lemon juice and a hypodermic needle...kills 'em dead

Yup, anything low ph or high ph. They oviously cant handle a huge ph swing. I'm sure you could pee on them, should work just fine.:)

Yeah, but doesn't Joe's have the infamous"secret ingredient" too!

I've tried the boiling water thing before--with some sucess, but the biggest ones kept coming right back in a few days...

Do you have to use fresh lemons???
Or does the bottled "real lemon" juice (in a plastic lemon-shaped bottle) at the grocery store work too?
