I put a encrusting Porites rock with 5 christmas tree worms in my 30 gallon nano over a year ago. Each worm had one christmas tree each coming out of each hole.
Now each hole has several "christmas tree" type feather dusters coming out of each hole. In fact one of them has 4 "trees". They have also grown longer calcium tubes.
I take all of this as a good sign but I can't find any in depth info on the critters.
Some of the Porites have died due to an accidental alarming increase in KH that I have since rectified.
My questions:
1. Are all of these "trees" in each hole coming from the same worm or are there now multiple worms in each hole?
2. How long do they generally live?
3. My LFS said they produce energy from lighting but I haven't read anything like that in the info I HAVE been able to find. What is the best thing to feed them?
4. I've heard that the coral and worms have a symbiotic relationship. Don't know if that is true; Would the worms die if the Porites dies?
Thanks!
Jill
