Raising the titanic, a 4x4 Coldwater tidal pool build

The sealant he used was rtv 108. But the plan is to go with a clear sealant to compliment the rimless look. It's way bigger than I imagined. My stand design has started. I am looking at using 4x6 treated lumber for the legs, and 2x8 for the rim and supports on top of a platform bottom to distribute the weight over the floor better. That's the initial thought process at least. Any suggestions are welcome.

You wont need timber near that big. Is this going to be a covered stand?

I already have the 4x6" so that's free:) but I imagine 4x4's will be fine. With 2x6 rim and joist underneath. I want to make it shorter than the original due to it being a touch tank. I am thinking of putting a 55 gallon eel grass refugium/sump. With the refugium at the front in the lower section of the stand. So do I need to make sure there is enough drop in the return line. There would be 3' of travel to the sump. How much of a drop would be enough?

Ok so I have changed the game today... Bigtime:) more on that in a bit. So I'm looking to put the stand together. I'm wanting to build it with a rim of 2x8 and run 2x6 joist with hangers. And use hurricane clips on the posts and wrap the the bottom with 2x8's. And have it all sitting on plywood to spread the weight. I would love feedback on the stand idea before i build it. I reinforced the floor with some posts. It's overkill but I don't want to break the floor lol. As far as the tank is concerned I think I'm gonna go with clear caulk since it's a rimless. Mike told me the weir needs replacement. So that is in the works. But now for the big news. I ordered a bunch of cuttlefish eggs! I'm going to have cuttlefish as the primary species along with tidal anemones to include snakelock, green surf and aggregating anemones. I realize that cuttlefish will be a wild departure from the norm but their strobbing, color changing, shape shifting, and predetory ways are truly unique. This is turning out to be quite the adventure:)

What cuttles are you getting that can handle the colder temps with the coldwater anemones you're getting?

Well I'm splitting the difference and using green surf anemones, snakelock and aggregating anemones that are super hardy and can take higher temps than will be reached in this in an unheated tank. The cuttlefish are common cuttlefish who like temps ranginging from 58-77. So it will be a good mix requirement wise. And I won't necessarily need a chiller and condensation won't be a problem. The cuttlefish will be the only fish in there do to there super aggressive hunting. I am getting the cluster tues. I can't wait!!

Very interesting!
Where did you order these from?

I've always thought these were the neatest cuttles...the Sepia Bandensis cuttles remind me too much of spiders....they kinda creep me out.

I got them from Coldwater marine Aquatics they were for an order for Duke University but they backed out and I stepped in:)

Quick update. I finalized plans for the stand, after talking it over with peppie. I'm pretty excited that that is done now I Lucy have to build the damn thing! Lol. And I just finalized the order for the cuttlefish eggs. The should be here in two days and then into the 20 gallon tank they go. So tonight I will be getting things set along with getting some mysis shrimp tomorrow.

Alright I got good news and bad news. The bad news is I'm gonna have to replace the bottom of the tank and the euro bracing to make it all fit right. So the build has been pushed out a bit do to this. But I did get my cuttlefish eggs today. About three dozen little black beauties:) I have them sitting in my breeder box attached to my 20 gallon tank that is fully cycled at this point. They are sitting right under the outlet getting lots of oxygenated water flowing over them. I cant wait till they hatch:) I'm gonna need a ton of mysis! Anyone up for a midnight raid to grab some mysis shrimp lol. I'm going tonight as long as stay motivated after I get off at midnight tonight.

So I know that this is about the 4x4 but I am taking a quick detour and sTaking you on a tour of the cuttlefish nursery. This is my original Coldwater tank and after some rearranging of the algae and kelp and macro algae. It's stuffed with crabs and assorted critters. And one cockscomb who I have only seen one time. Lol. But this is where they get to play.
