i just got my Ranco Temp Controller and I'm not too sure how to set it up.
The sensor portion is like 6ft long. Can I just put the 1 ft portion in the water leave the rest out? or do I need to buy simething extra to connect to the sensor line? Please help.

thanks for your help. So I can just put 1 ft of sensor portion in the water and leave the other 5 ft out?

you just need to put the sensor into the water, couple inches at most. post a pick?

I think the sensor cable is the covered portion.

I'd go with about 4" into the water, my Ranco has a titanium sensor so it is shorter. That should be fine, try it out a few days & see how well it works like that!
You can call or e-mail them if you want, I know they will get back to you!

They make them that long in case you want or need to go deeper, 6 -8 inches would also be fine but probably not necessary, whatever fits your tank.

yeah that picture was not what i expected mine is like 2 inches but scooty is probaly right test it over the course of a few days adding a little more in the water and see if it makes a significant difference

Ok, I put about 1ft in the water set at 77 with 3 diff. cooling mode. The fan turned on as soon as I set the controller because the water temp was 80. The fan is still running at temp 78. We will see if the fan turns off at 77.

 It really is only about 2" long. That black stuff is a "waterproofer" shell that the vendor installs before shipping them out.

Remember to keep the excess away from ballast.

Thanks, I mounted it right next to JBC ATO box and Aqualifter pump on the out side of the stand.
