So I noticed my RBTA moving all over the place the other day and when I looked the next morning it appears to have split. Is it common for them to move around before a split?

Brian...

mine stayed in the same place the rbta split 2 weeks ago and my gbta split last night both didnt move at all...i think mine split due to me being gone and the wife fed them both whole cubes everyday for 5 weeks straight

A lot of times, yes, an RBTA will move, prior to splitting, into a more "private" area.

It's actually thought that splitting is more of a stress response, than a reproductive response. In nature, anemones very rarely split. In our tanks, it's believed they split when stressed, or feel in danger. In fact, some people purposely create "stress" in order to induce their Bubble Tipped anemones to split.

The splitting due to stress has been my experience also. I have had many RBTAs in different tanks under different conditions. My most recent purchase put its "foot" down and has stayed in the same spot for eight months...has just grown larger, never split.

In a previous tank, I did a lot of moving rock around, etc., and I had a lot of splits during that period.
