Alrighty folks I wanted to announce our first workshop, planned for the beginning of January 2011. This workshop will be run by DonW our expert craftsmen.

Don is going to build a custom Oak shaker style aquarium stand. Stand base is made from 100% 3/4 oak veneer plywood. Doors are made from solid oak with 5.5mm veneer panel and European hidden cup hinges. So for all you that have plans in the future of doing somthing similar come on in and follow him as he builds the project and feel free to ask as many questions as you need to. This will take place in our Reef Frontiers Workshop forum, so keep an eye open for it.

Also in keeping with our Premium Membership promise Reef Frontiers will add a Aquaeon all glass aquarium. 20 gallons (long) to sit on top of this beauty and then hold a free auction for all Premium Members to be entered into. The stand will be final sanded and ready for you to apply whatever finish you may want on it.

Take care

Looking forward to the door part for ideas for my new stand. Don is quite the craftsmen! I know a few that are also doorless and know they will be following along.

Hey Reefmack and welcome aboard!! We plan on doing monthly projects or at least as many as we can fit in, lol. If their is one you would like to see done feel free to make a suggestion in that forum.

Looks like something to keep an eye on. If only I could build a stand like that for my 6'x3' 180gallon.

Why not?? You should be able to reference the methods Don is going to use and then just translate that to yours. You have always got back up on board if you need a hand??

Yea I think we are going to hav some neat stuff come out of this series. I think the next one is going to be a calcium reactor, then a skimmer, an electronic top off??

Wow - those are some nice projects coming up!

Exciting!!! Just a reminder...

The stand made, in this workshop, along with a 20 gallon aquarium, will be auctioned off, in a free auction. The Free Auction is limited to Premium Members. I do believe the winner will be responsible for any shipping involved. Get your Premium Membership!! A chance to win a very nice project!!

I have a stand that I am about done with. I bought an old dresser off of Craigs-list (50ish they were solid wood then) removed all but one drawer removed the bracing for the drawers and anything else I didn't need and built two doors for it. I painted it white and it looks pretty darn good.

Sounds cool Airphotg, with a little imagination we can do some pretty neat stuff.

On the workshop I crossed wires a bit with Don on the tank and stand setup, so it will not be the one I first announced. But Donw has a real sweet one to do in its place!! SO once I get the full discription I will re announce it.

Hi all. I'd like to follow this one along. Looks like an interesting project!

Hey RS guy:D How's that RSM treating you? I hope you can come over and share some of that Super nano tank experience with us, we could use it!
Welcome to RF:)

I'm in!! :D Can't wait to see the other projects too. :)

Rhodes that one is the one I kind of got crossed up with Don about, The one I orginally announced Don has already built and has been doing in his workshop forum already. With some smooth talking I managed to talk Don into doing up a real gem of a tank/stand combo with him cutting loose a little of his walnut for us!! Once he has the total project summerized I will repost it and then we will get that puppy going.

Welcome to RF:)

A belated thanks for the welcome! There's very little left of my original RSM 130. The stock hood was replaced early so that I could put a skimmer in back that actually skimmed (HOB Remora). After a few years of changing things, all I have left of original equipment is the 2 little circ. pumps in the back compartment. I currently run a Coral Vue 6xT5 hood, a LifeReef siphon, small 2 chamber sump in the cabinet with an SWC 120 cone skimmer, my Tunze ATO, Reef Keeper pH sensor, TLF 150 reactor that I'm running NPX pellets in, and of course a return pump (M-J 1100 utility pump). And a Vortech MP20 in the DT. I try to never think about how many $$$ I've sunk into my little tank! :)
