In stead of having a 120g glass tank without any holes and all those plumbing and over flow hanging in the outside and in the display tank. A reef ready tank made out of plywood and epoxy paint with all the over flow and close loop holse made with a quike drill. What due you think about this replacement instead of the gass tank? Also the glass tank is not done correctly although it dosnt leaks.

Sure thier are alot of tanks made that way. I do believe their is a life span on a tank like that but I am not sure what it is. I will see if I can dig some info up for ya. Also I know someone that has done that. I will see if I can get him over here to talk with ya.

Brian_e had a BEAUTIFUL 320 gallon in-wall wood tank!! He recently tore it down and is in the process of getting another one... acrylic I think. Maybe you could PM or email him....

Thanks for all the sugestions....I already had check GARF, from ther I got my idea but is it a good idea to put a reef in this type of tank because Im planning on livin it for many years running like that?If the back wood sheet is going to have about 12 holes due I need to put 2 3/4 sheets of wood together so its stronger?

plywood tanks are great if u are tiring to save money. My tank was only set up for 2 years and its great to be able to drill holes when ever u want to and i always wanted to and u still shouldn't need to double the back wall it will be fine. The only thing i can tell u is to find the best paint u can what i had got was local and when i drained it i found it had some cracks in the paint i think do to the uv from the lights. If u are going to build it the way garf says u can change the center brace to a euro brace makes it a lot nicer not blocking light mine was a 2 1/2 inch lip all the way around the top

sorry all my stuff runs togather if u need to ask me send me a email [email protected]

I have built several plywood tanks in the past years for my self and friends. The oldest one being 12 years old, hasn't showed any sign of fatigue yet. I use hardwood plywood like birch, epoxy resin and fiber glass matting for the base and then epoxy paint

I will practice a little with small project ontil I learn the basics to get started in a 180g tank im thinking to do. Some help may help thanks...

i've built several and the las one is still in use, today. 250gal's just using 3/4" CDX ply, with fiberglass cloth in the all the corners. I used the resin and added a blue color to it (dye) and just poured it on to make a 1/4" thick "liner" to the inside. Now across the top just add several thd rods for a brace to not block the lights.
good luck

I Had Seen A Tank In Hawii That Was In Wall Made Out Of An Old Hot Tub W The Front Only Being Glass. It Was One Of The Coolest Things I Had Ever Seen.
