I just setup a refugium. Everything has been going great. However, I seem to be gettng bubbles into the tube, and I am trying to figure out a possible better method. Please see attached photos.

Looks like you may not have enough flow going throught the u-tube to push out the air

Air in Line

My brother a the same problem with his overflow so he got a vacuum setup to automatically vacuum and air and start the syphon by itself. Worry free.
Got it from Marine Depot.

Another thing that causes that is if you have the U tube backwards. The longer end should be on the back of the tank and the shorter end on the inside. Once primed properly, you should never have to re-prime it again unless you remove the Utube to clean. Tony had the same problem and had to spin it.

Well I do have the long side of the U tube, on the outside of the tank. It appears that the water coming in the box to be syphoned out produces small bubbles that will add themselves to the bigger bubble. I am also getting food sucked into the box and then pumped into the regfugium. Feels like I need a filter or something for bubbles and food. BUT, if I do any filter of some sort, I will have to clean it weekly and re-prime the U-tube. (I dont feel like adding that to my chores)

Tubing and Venturi

Alright I did some research, so I can prevent future issues. I put an air-tube at the top of the U-Tube and sucked out the air. I also read that you can attach the the tube to the venturi of the refugium water pump. But when I do that it blows water into the tube rather than suck. What do I do now?
