Hi,
Don't forget when calculating the cost of hauling water from the store to your house to add in the cost of a chiropractor or even a few days off if you put your back out!
I think Costco has a premium no waste unit for about 300 bucks. One thing you want to look for in older or cheap units is the amount of waste water-mine tosses 5 gallons for every one it makes and some are worse. Newer models should be better. Some run redundant cartridges which is pretty pointless (IMO) and adds to cost.
I also had a bad batch from a grocery store vending machine, fortunately it was in a freshwater tank. You can wreck your home filter too, just turn on the hot water instead of cold or don't change the cartridges.
