Has anyone tried an ionized water system for their tank like Kangen water system which makes the water alkaline and supposedly better? I currently use RO water for my tank but a friend sells this other system, and I am just curious if it would be any better or worse.

A quote from the descriptiove of a proponent of Kangen water: "the writings of Robert O. Young D.Sc., Ph.D., based upon his theory that the human organism is alkaline by design and acidic by function. He suggests that there is only one sickness and one disease which is caused by an over acidification of the blood and then tissues due to an inverted way of living, eating and thinking. There is no way to have health and acidity -- health and alkalinity is the way!"

Cool! One sickness and one disease! All Cancer is cured!

"The word "Kangen" in Japanese means "return to origin"".... origin? What would that be? Dinasaur pee? I guess it would be prior to that. Hmmmm.......

"Fact: In the 1980s the Japanese Health Department recognized that ionized alkaline water (kangen water) from water ionizers had proven health benefits and described water ionizers as health devices. Nowhere did any Government say specifically that Enagic units were the ones approved."

Say, isn't this the same that thinks bear parts enhance virility? Or is it shark parts? Are there are many guys "on the Yogi" with perpetual sproing? Hmmm......

Heck, maybe 'tis true! What will it hurt other than my wallet (and a few animals).

Count me out.

Thanks for the opinions, but just to be clear nobody has actually tried this, right? Not that I am willing to try it, I think it's not a good idea, but I just wondered if it has been tried and what the results were. I expect poor.

Your info on the alk vs acid in humans is right on target. This is why sugar and other acids are not good for our bodies. But in water you will find many metals that are good for our bodies. RO water is what we call Dead water meaning there is no energy in it. This is why we put it in our tanks to make sure the phosphate is zero. I drank this water for a while but have now switched to drinking Spring water as spring water has the most energy or life in it that is essential for our bodies. As we all know tap water is poison for fish and other animals.

From reading this first it was asked is anyone tried this for their tanks (please correct me if I am wrong) and somehow turned into what is healthy for humans.

Since RO/DI water is dead water it is not good for humans to drink it because we need the metals etc from spring water. However RO water is ok for us to drink because it still has traces of what humans need. That is why you can splice into your RO/DI units before the DI and hook it up to your house for drinking water.

If I had a chance (knew where to get some) I would be willing to try ionized water. At least for a month or so, just enough to see if there is side affects to a small tank.

The water coming out of my RO unit is less than 2 ppm TDS, so I doubt that the "traces of what humans need" would make much of a contribution.

For make-up water in my tank I am still more comfortable with the RO water plus added calcium hydroxide (saturated solution), rather than some "ionized" water that may be contributing things that are not consumed by the animals and plants in the tank.

Thank you all for the info, and I think I agree that it probably would not be good for a tank. At least I am not comfortable trying it. I was just curious if it had been tried and what the final result was. It doesn't sound like anyone has tried it and I don't think I want to be the first. After all, don't fix it if it aint broken, right. :D
