Hello to all aquarists

i like to know if anyone had any luck culturing rose bubble anemones, i had had one for a few yrs it just started to split,
now i have 3 :) i started with one which was bout 8-9" across.

Like to know inputs

thank you

you know what did it for me? a super high salinity.

i am not recommending this to you, only telling you what my unintentional results where.

Back before i evolved a brain, i was managing 1000dollars worth of livestock and equipment off a crappy 14 dollar swing arm noob ass hydrometer.

Of course, like all plastic junk pieces, it malfunctioned (went bad, whatever...) and started to read super low. This happened over time and so here i am just adding salt salt and more salt. I melted most of my corals, just softies but still, and murdered my midas blenny (sleep well my sweet prince.../snot) before i did what anyone would do and sampled the water from my LFS with my amazing swingarm. Of course it was off the chart.

what did i gain? my RTBA turned in to 4 like pretty much over night. I go to bed and i got one, i wake up and now there are two stinging the crap out of my softies. Then about a week later both of them split.
Was it the salinity? dude i have no idea. However back in those days i was not doing anything right, and on top of that i have heard other people mutter things about salinity and RTBAs.

What did i learn?
1) RTBAs are like vodka martinis... one is not enough, and two is way too many
2) buy a refractometer or don't even bother with the hobby.

Thanks erik lol.

Yea i use a refractometer had it for a few yrs still works like a champ. Beleive it or not i dont need it my pump will tell me when i need water starts shooting out lil bubble out into my 600gal tank i have a 100g sump with a sequence barracuda 4300gph i lose bout 4-5 gal/day i cant go more than 2 days w/o adding water to my sump, there also a 50gal refugium thats where the anemone is. I'll try to post a pic later.

I just got my first split from a light bulb change. I was going from worn out 20k xm's to
10k xm's so I reduced the metal halide time from nine to three hours. That was still enough time to burn the anemone and make it split.

Then

now

I feed a whole silverside to each anemone every four days to make them grow. I have not tried to find a feeding schedual to keep them the same size.

Wow thats very nice , well today i grt home seems like the bigger part of the 3 way split is gonna split again. Keep them coming woohooo lol

What is all that weird fuzzy stuff in your tank?

I now think it's bryopsis. I think I'm starting to get ahead of it. Besides manual removal I'm bumping up magnesium, changing the GFO every week and moving some of the bryopsis out to one of my refugiums.

I had planned on growing macro algae in a refugium from the start but never got the lights installed. It looks to me like this stuff would be excellent for nutrient export it just doesn't belong in the display.

I have another split to report. The big one on the top in the above post tore itself in half Sunday the 11th. This time there wasn't a stressor that I no of. I'm thinking if you just feed a whole silverside every four to five days you'll get a split.

Here you see the little half of the clone in the hole above the other anemone.

And the other bigger half moved to the right in this picture.

Thats two splits in eight months. I can see where these anemones can take over a tank pretty quick.

yes T-5's will keep RTBA if they are HO and have individual reflectors!
RETURNOFSID has good luck with T-5's over his REEF tank!

The smallest clone finally ate today. All three are eating now. The biggest clone from the last split ate in two days it has taken seven days for the little one to eat.

Bill , thats awesome i havent tried to feed mines yet there is one clown fish that is in all of them lol he goes from one to the other so funny lol

Lil update, i think my clown fish didn't like 2 of anemone i saw him literary kill it like a bulldog on a cat i dont think one its gonna make it :( trying to save the other one :( we will see.... More updates as they come avail....

In my case... I did not intentionally do it but I started with one... and have been for the next 2 years and then after that, everytime I do a major water change, it splits. From what I have learned, they split when they are stressed.

This is an old pic when I still have all 25 of them...

I sold all off them except for one... that was 6 months ago... Now I have 3....
