has anyone keep a rose bulb anemone healthy (and the environment too) in a SPS tank? I do have some soft corals in the tank but are farther away from any SPS and are doing good- however if indeed this is a possibility- i am thinking of placing (forcefully of course) the anemone on the one side that it could not sting any SPS.

The problem with them being in a tank with corals is that they don't stay put very often. They like to wander the rockwork and will sting the corals they come in contact with. Sometimes you can get lucky and they find a spot they like and stay there. They like a rock with a deep hole to put their foot into.They seem to stay put more often when they are hosting clownfish.

Kevin, thanks for the response, so are you suggesting, have the anemone establish in a rock then transfer that rock to the tank- and just be hopeful it wont wander around? i do have 2 pairs of ocellaris in the tank, right now they are staying in a hairy mushroom colony on the bottom tank. Do you have a tank that has this situation tho? i mean SPS with rose bulb anemone?

That would be a good plan. They like a hole (you could make one) 2" across and 2-4" deep. They do quite well in conditions that are favorable for SPS as long as they can find a location that doesn't have too much water flow or super intense light.
Another thing to consider is that these anemone will split and you will have to deal with another anemone looking for a place to call home
Several other sand dwelling anemone are better suited for SPS tanks but it's hard to beat the coloration and shape of the Rose anemone.

Yes it is possible to have them in a SPS/Clam tank as I do. In fact mine just split yesterday goving me a total of three now. If they are fairly healthy they will do this. My original two are about 12 inches across, but my tank is a 135 too.
I was able to pull this off without any corals getting stung becuase all of my corals are movable. I just put my Anenome in and let him wander til he found the spot of his liking and moved corals out of his way as he went. Once he found the "just right spot" and planted himself well I then arranged the corals in my tank around his position. This is kind of a pain to do things like this but its the best way I have found. I have been pretty lucky in that they have all stayed on one rock which is kinda the center piece of my tank. Although one of these days I will have to snatch that rock and put it in an unlite bucked of water and get them to move off of it so I can sell the other two or move to another tank. Otherwise that tank will end up being a species only tank if they keep on splitting!
