I bought some tank bred saddle back clown fish. I have a red tipped anenome in my aquarium and the clown fish have not shown any interest in it. They are trying to host on the brain coral in my aquarium. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the clown fish to go to the anenome.

You cant force them, they will host in many different thing. you could move the brain to another spot away from where it is now. or change your aquascaping so the clowns think it is in a new world, and look for a new home.

I've had clowns that never hosted my anemone. Some will and some won't so don't feel too bad if it never hosts because you won't be the first. Good luck with it though :)

Try feeding the Clowns right next to the Anemone so they associate food with the Anemone.

Might be kinda tough in high flow tanks like I had. If that is the case, you may have to shut down all of the flow when feeding . :)

I've been told that posting a picture of a clown hosting in an anemone on the tank wall works - I haven't tried it - but it sounds cute :)

would it help to put up a plastic screen structure around the brain coral so that the coral gets food, water and light but the clowns can't get close to it?

Also, does water flow affect the clowns preference? THe brain coral is in a lower flow section of my tank. The anemone is in a higher flow section.

Hi all - Brad at Red Sea Aquariums solved my clown issue. I coaxed them into an anenome with a net. After a few visits to the anenome, they finally decided it was okay and now they are hosting happily.
