 I thought I'd start a thread with the start of my new tank & stand. I'm knee deep into building this stand, man one day I hope it will be what I want & come out as nice.

Ok here we go!:eek2:

Ok here is the tank, we designed it to support good flow, & surface skimming into the sump.

WTG Scooter! About time! You've been messing with us all this time and you've got all those skills!!!(LOL) Looks like an amazing start man! You are doing a great job so far! Keep it up and I will keep this thread going:p Best wishes man:)

Nice! What size is the tank going to be? Also, I see it looks like you will have a big and a small door on your stand...Great idea for getting in and out a sump and working on things. Very nice man! I'm all excited for ya!:D

well it was about time :p .
GOOOO SCOTTY !!! :D .
This is the monster tank, it is a monster tank and we all agreed this is the monster tank  :D.
Keep the pictures coming, i wanna see more ( you know me, picture freak :D)

Actually It will have three doors on the bottom front, one on the left side & a skinny tall door on the top right, & a hood door. The tank will set on the left side & the right side will be an extended cabinet, covered in 3/4" Oak plywood. It is 35 1/2" tall, 32" wide & 6' 6" long, plus the total height of 77 1/2" which is just enough to get through the back sliding door. I should get the Hayward Motorized ball valve next week, my next purchase will be one of three pumps Sequence 4200 for the top CL on the MBV, another for the bottom I think, which might be on a daily timer & last the sump return, not sure what I want for that pump. I will order a 50 gallon Oceanic pre drilled sump & make my own baffles for it. I have a Mad Dog skimmer that never worked right so I need to replace the junky pump needle wheel or make an air stone out of it, not sure yet. Later I'll put two LIII's reflectors & probably two 10k 250 watt Ushios on either the HIQ or standard PFO ballast, I'll later supplement with some sort of fluorescent mainly for color but also Pre & post sunrise. Later I plan on taking a stab of making a kalk reactor & I already have a carbon/phosphate reactor to add in. I still need to prep the wall & run extra breakers in the room before I move the stand to the final location, also I won't trim out the stand until after I get it in the house, It is very heave already, I'll custom fit each piece then stain in the garage & install afterwords to reduce stinking up the house.
Thanks all for the comments, I'll post as I make progress & take pictures but I warn you now this isn't going to happen over night.

Oh yea the tank is almost a 125g!

Sounds like a nice project ahead! Everything seems to be well thought out and nicely planned so I'm sure everything will turn out just right! If you have any problems with heat coming off of those MH's, I have a very informative thread you can read:p Take it easy Scooter and take your time with it:)

Oh I'll have at least 6" of air between the reflectors & the water surface, I will use 2 fans & I'll get a small chiller sorta like what your getting, I'm not going to sweat it this time around, I will build everything that I can & It will be when I have time between the 12 hour days at work & everything else. Part of reef keeping that I do enjoy is making what I can & saving the pennies for the rest like a controller, fancy low power pumps & all the other goodies. I forgot to mention my reef keeping goal, I plan on keeping mainly sps & a few lps & a very few small fish, maybe some false perks, & a fairy wrasse, also a small few hermits & snails but most probably not a lot. Also the rock work I will have a totally new approach to aquascaping as far as me doing it that is, I may end up building a rack to allow better flow around them & more area for mounting corals, not sure as to exactly how much rock I will use this time, probably not as much as in my last tank. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll need lots of it as time goes on, right now my goal is do the prep. work ahead of the final stand location, & by then I should have all the pumps to get first flow, I think I'll have an extended period of water movement & QT for the LR's before getting to the lighting, mainly because I want good stuff at a price I can't afford lol :)

Sounds good...I have only 4 fish in my tank and really only planned on one more small one:D I'm not big on bio-loads...Well, this will definately be a fun read of your progress. I'll let you know how that chiller works when I get it in terms of how loud it is etc. :)

Scooter take your time :) ..... i mean just don't take 2 years :p but yeah these things need to be planned good and flood proof .

and flood proof .

I don't know of anyone that can say that, flood proof is one of those things you just don't say:shock:

So knock on Wood!;) I'll try my best with what I got!

well i'll cross my fingers for you dood :D :) !!
I mean i'm sure everything is gonna come out pretty nice..... but just in case :p :D .

Today I put on the first oil based coat on the inside, Ill let it dry a week then apply the second coat, I'll also use a bathroom silicone to seal the bottom 3.5 inches just to get a little more protection than my last stand. If I have time after the race I may also cut the top out where the stand will sit & later stain & seal it, right now we're taking baby steps, I'm trying to apply ideas of several (quite a few actually) systems & my personal experience into this "X" project. BTW I changed the stand plans more than once, I wasted & over built it way more than I wanted but as I was building it rather than tear it down I came up with alternate plans, I could eliminate a lot of wood here & still be very strong, so once I finish it I'll end up redrawing it in CAD using less than half the 2x4's in case someone will need it later or myself. The count right now I think is 14 2x4's, that is way too many folks LOL but too far gone to stop now & I will get two more to complete the framing, add 3/4" Oak & this stand is a Beast!

That was cool I was held up in my chair big time, now today can Jr do it & complete the weekend? Michel Waltrip said it would be someone new this time, to me Michel gave up DEI & lost his best ever ride, so I don't think he knows what he is saying about DEI!
