A friend of mine is hookin' me up with some free blue and red mushrooms from his sand bed.

My question is how do I "pick" them, and "plant" them once in my tank?

I'm guessing I can just pull them off his sand bed and place them in mine, but I'm not sure how they grow under the polyp.

Also, would it be ok to transport in same bucket as xenia? They aren't going to chemically nuke themselfs on the way home are they?

I would be careful about the transport, isn't there any way you could separate them. As for placing them in your system, if you have a bunch of rubble, just place them in the rubble and sooner than later they will attach themselves. I have buried them in rubble before and they came out OK. HTH.

I could just use another bucket, I just didn't know if I needed to.

Thats a good idea about the rubble, I'll try that. ;)

Thanks,

a good way to move shrooms is a sharp woodworkers chisel... you can skin the polyps off the rock and have a sliver of rock with them that acts as a weight or a place for a drop of superglue, as you like, for anchoring to new substrates.

hmmm i'd use plastic lunch baggies for the corals i think it'd be better if not just 2 different buckets.
if you have some panties laying around( you know the ones that have semi bigger holes like the ones rock stars use :p) i'd use that and a rubber band... you just lay them on the rock then cover them with the panties and tie them with the rubber band ... that's what i do :) .
or wedding veil (beil ... you know the thingy women wear in their wedding ceremony :p:D ... it works good too ... i think Michaels or any craft store does have them for cheap)
on the xenias... i just rubber band them :)

Anthony,

Would I have to chisel them out of the sand too? Are they connected to the bottom glass or just laying in the sand?

Gabby,

I just don't quite know how to respond to your post. I'm speechless.

I don't regularly stock panties, but there may be a few pairs under my bed. I'll have to look. I'm still not entirely sure how dental floss is going to help my corals. :doubt:

lol!!!.
well it's not my fault your girlfriends wear dental floss   ...i'm serious panties work :p....unless you're trying to put them in your sand bed too which i think they're just gonna go flying all over and fighting with other corals.

more than likely if there sitting on the sand, there will be sand on the base of them. You can super glue them, or tooth pick them to your rock. Acclimate the zenia in the bucket you bring it home it, drip or however you do it. Do not add any of the water from the zenia to the tank.

I gotta go advanced for this.....
