Single MP40 or two? in a 125g 72" brick.

Just out of curiosity. Would a single MP40 be enough for a 72" 125brick to make good wave action? I was thinking of putting it on one end of my tank as a Christmas present to my corals next month ^_^

Or would I need two? One on each end.

p.s.
They are still considered among the best right? Since I'm thinking about spending that kind of cash...are there other high end powerhead options that might suit me to consider?

+1^ I have the mp 40 in a 60 gallon. Had it for 2+ years now ...they ROCK. But in a tank your size I'd do the 60.

72" = two of whatever you decide. You will need flow from both ends to avoid dead spots.

$700! That rules out two. Id be able to get 1.
And isn't that a little overkill?
The Mp40 will do up to a 500g tank.
Mp60 is up to 1,000.
I'd be at the minimum spec for an MP60.

i had a mp40 in my 120g and i liked the flow it gave but it was a little to loud for my taste. so i bought a tunze 6055 and i love how quiet it is and it does the same pulse mode i used the mp40 for.

tat2z_21 has 2x6100 tunze's in his tank with some good flow and its really quiet.

so im a fan of tunze now

Ive been reading on the tunze myself last 20 min.
I see they go pretty high up the charts as well.
$700ish for the top end.

The pulse mode for the Tunze, does it give you good wave action?
I'm wanting to step it up for my corals, and am hoping the random action of water currents will stimulate better health overall.

yes i get awesome wave action. mine came with a diy controller so i can fine to the wave and get the best frequency for my tank

I think I might lean towards these.I can find plenty of negative on the Eco techs, but haven't heard a peep against the tunze.Significantly cheaper, and fully direct-able.

I am having a bit of trouble figuring out why they are listed as controllable, yet the product description at bulk reef supply specifically says "Controller not included"

Is it becuase they come with "vanilla" wave settings out of the box, and to use the full features...you will need to buy the expensive controller?

Two mp40's or two tunzes, whichever you prefer. I had two mp40's on my 60" 125 and had plenty of flow.

the 6105's do not come with the controller. You have to purchase the 7095 by itself.

Out of the box they are just powerheads the multi controller will make the wave motion. Do a search on reefcentral for tunze diy controller made for under 10 bucks

Oh, so they just have a default setting of full blast
Well I see they have the controllers as low as $64:
Tunze Single controller (7091.000) - English
And as high as $260:
Tunze Multicontroller (7095.000) - English
Just a matter of choosing the best match for myself. Since the cheap one only does a single powerhead, I might go with the deluxe version, in the event I get a second 6100 series when some extra cash drops in my pocket

I would look at running two mp40s it will be worth the extra money.

I would stick to Tunze's personally I just traded 2 out for a mp40 as I wanted a more low profile look tunzes are a bit bulky but far superior IMO. if you go with a single controller which is the 60.00 one you can get a "Y" and use it for 2 tunzes a multi controller would be better as you can set each side seprate. if you get the multi I can walk you through setting it up for some wave motions I had a 1 inch wave with 3 6100's by themselves and a 2 inch wave with a DIY wave box. I have one tunze left I will not use as I am taking all my systems down. the mp40 will more then likely be shipped to a buddy in vegas.

Great customer service on both sides though. and both low wattage
