Good Evening,

After fiddling with this skimmer now for a few days, Ive given up. It's a Euroreef ES5-2, I've had it running since May 2004, onlly have had one problem with it prior to this when the top half spearated from the bottom half. That problem was solved painlessly with a coupler provided by Euroreef.

Anyway, the current issue is I cannot seem to get than darn thing to make skimmate. The bubbles won't get high enough in the neck. It's such a simple design, I cannot figure out what the problem is. I've had it apart, cleaned out the pump, venturi and ari line. After doing this it runs good for about an hour then back to being ineffective.

Anyone had this problem?

Thanks in adavnce for your assistance,

Dan

there are two possibilities to your problem either the pump is too low in the waterthus not enough air is getting into it to create enough bubbles. or you have the wrong size pump. i am not cnocking euro reefs design but i am not a fan of needle wheel skimmer design asperation is an ineffective design to create fine bubbles. i went with a down draft skimmer.

Hmmm......looks like they arent sponsors anymore??

Try their webpage...might take a few days though....

I have one and I love it, sold my downdraft and bought my CS6-2 instead.

Have you tried to adjust the stand pipe to create more back pressure? If you have then try the Euroreef tech support. I would assume the pump is the right size because it is the one that came with it. Sounds like you adjust the stand pipe it should fix it. Dave

FBNB,
I have a ER5-2 on my 20 long. The pump is a Sedra 3500. The skimmer is running in about 9-10" of water with the stand pipe at lowest setting.. I get wet dark skimmate. I think ER reccomends running the skimmer in about 8" of water which should dry the skimmate out. As stated earlier I would e-mail ER support.

I emailed ER about the optimal water depth to put one of their skimmers in and was told 5-8 inches of water.
