alright so I've read that keeping more then one pair of clowns is a noe no. But i've also read that if introduced young enough their will be 2 dominante clowns(m/F) and the rest remain as jueveniles.
So I have to ask. I have a 30g tall with 2 high-fin gobies, I recently (2 days ago) added 2 Ossilarius ( can't remeber the spelling) about 1 inch in length, I don't believe they have paired yet. I was wondering if it's possible for me to add one/2 black ossili?...all are/would be tank raised.

I also have a six line that I have to figure out how to catch and return to the store without taking all my rock out.( got to read the sticky at the start of this forum)

Also, I will be making a 20-30g "pretty" sump/fuge ( I have no where to hide it) so if there is any problems with any of the clowns I was thinking that they could live in there.

thanks.

RE:More than one pair is a no-no

Hi Yvonne I tried what you are wanting to do In a 72" long 150 gallon Aquarium even adding them at the same time and adding them at different ends of the tank they ( Both Pairs very young) had lots of cover and places for them to settle down I even bought them over time 2 Anomies one for each end of the Tank as they matured they just constantly fight over real estate If I could catch the False Ocellaris Clown - Amphiprion ocellaris I think my Black and White False Ocellaris Clown - Amphiprion ocellaris Would settle down and start laying some eggs I do have another pair in my 75 gallon Tank "Tomato Clown's - Amphiprion frenatus" and they are breeding just cant get to the next step...
But I think In a 30 gallon long just stay with your pair ..Just my 2 cents,,,Jeff

In a larger tank you could easily have a dominant female/male and several "neuter/male" of the same species. In a 30 gal, it won't be that great of an idea.

hmm ive if u kept maybe 5 clowns all the same clour u could pull it off i have seen this at the local AQWA (aquirum of western australia)
why are u catching ur 6line? wats the problem with him i think there a great fish although i personally havent had a problem with my and i know others have

thanks for the replies

I was under the impression that it was a bad idea, but I put it out there so I could be shut down, I thought it would be really neat though.

In regards to the devil...I mean 6 line, well beautiful fish, a little *%$^ though, he decided that the entire tank was his and chased one of my high fins out of the tank, the other is still MIA I've seen him/her but can't get him to come out to eat. I'm really upset about the highfins as they were my first pair and I spent a month "training" them to not be afraid of me, and I really liked having a pair.

And the clowns ( the only 2 I have in the tank) are covered in bit marks from him ( I was watching him, it was him and not the other clown)

Yeah so the sixline is gone.

Sorry about the Hi fins Yvonne I too have had some trouble with My sixline in the past, It got so bad I had to transplant it into my 150 tank It would attack my Disbar Anthias & MY Leopard Wrasses this was some thing that took time The sixline had been in the tank over six months before getting the Attitude:mad:

I wanted to ask you,
what other fish do you have in your tank with the gobies, as I now have one lonely and timid(the bolder one got chased out of the tank)high-fin, and I really don't want to add anything that will intimidate/make it's life hell.

I'm not planing to add any other fish for a while, I would love if i could get another high-fin but they are incredibly hard to distinguish m/f.

thanks

how did the pregnant/baby shrimpies work out?

Gobie Tank Mates

My Yellow Watchman Goby & Yashia White Ray Shrimp Goby kind of get along as you have seen in some of my shots They also get along with clown fish they seem to ignore each other. In my 75 gallon tank I have a single Orange Stripe Prawn Goby this guy is a lot bigger than the other 2 He kind of gets mad and will push away my Lawn Mower Blenny if he gets to close, Gets along great with clowns,Leopard wrasses, and I have a Bristletooth Tomini Tang and a Chevron Tang these tangs are 2" in length and they both tend to hind next to the Orange Stripe Prawn Goby & my pair of Japanese Pistol Shrimps They all seem to Ignore each other as well. No Yvonne the only trouble I have had with aggression against the little gobies has been with My sixline which I have dealt some poetic justice I have him in a tank with a Cleaning Neon Gold Goby who likes to jump on the side of the sixline and look for dinner puts the sixline in swim fast mode every time :p
Hope this helps...
As for the breeding pair of Randall's Pistol Shrimp - Alpheus randalli that I have they have spawned the eggs but I have seen nothing looking any different than the Copepods and Amphipods that are growing in this tank. I have tried to find a specialist with Alpheus randalli but no luck so far thanks for asking ...Jeff

hey Jeff

do you think my high fin would get along with a pair of Yashia White Ray Shrimp Goby? or are they to similair?

I've been told that my tank is to small for tangs ( 30g tall)

I've read somewhere that rasing shrimp fry is very difficult, I think I read that the fry cannot touch anything solid for the first few days ( not sure about this at all)

thanks

Get along fine.

My personal experience is the Hi fins are A little more out going and will stay out of the cave, sand bunker no pun intended More than the Yashia. I remember you have 1 Hi fin left right? add 2 Yashia's and One more hi Fin at the same time this will throw the dominant Hi fin off. I would agree your tank is too small for Tangs and Bing so big in a tank that size they would be mean to the gobies..Thanks for the tip on the Baby shrimp larvae between the Georgiana's, corals and the Protein's skimmers I am sure they never had a chance...

So the yashi is a no go, throwing out some other options

okay

So the boyfriend says no to the yashi goby( doesn't like the look and doesn't want the gobies to compete for bunker space) I kinda agree on the second point since my tank is tall rather then long.

So I was wondering if anyone has any experience/comments about some of the other goby species we ( boyfriend and I) agree on.

Eviota goby
(would get a pair, but are the tank mates to big/aggresssive for this little guy?)

rainford's goby
( seems quite and peaceful...from the picture)

blue neon goby
( are these guys annoying to other fish in the tank?)

black clown goby
(read that they pick at sps is that common? or just when breeding, I would only be getting one and have some acro. in the tanks that I would like to keep;) )

barnacle blenny ( not a goby, but so ugly that it's cute, cute)

presently there are 2 false clowns, and a lonely hi-fin goby that's going to get a mate once I get a lid for the tank, actually no additions into the tank until a lid is FIRMLY in place. All these species are under 2 inches so I'm guessing that I can add in 2-3 of

Tank is a 30g tall

All good choices =Eviota goby Have never read anything bad here
(would get a pair, but are the tank mates to big/aggresssive for this little guy?)

rainford's goby Great Choice been know to eat algea
( seems quite and peaceful...from the picture)

blue neon goby These guys are great only get 2 They will be mean to the third wheel Great cleaner fish
( are these guys annoying to other fish in the tank?)

Not so good =black clown goby Yavone I have read these have a very low survivor ratio They do better in large SPS dominated tanks hard to get them to eat prepaird foods
(read that they pick at sps is that common? or just when breeding, I would only be getting one and have some acro. in the tanks that I would like to keep )

barnacle blenny ( not a goby, but so ugly that it's cute, cute)These guys find a spider hole and get very territorial will pick on the hi-fin and other small fish been there done that don't like them Mini meanies

Of course the 2 that I really wanted are in the "not so good choice" catagory
Add the Amblygobius rainfordi to that as well. It unlike many of it's cousins is a herbivore and will graze the tank daily for micro/filament algae. They do not sift sand. This makes feeding it rather difficult sometimes and should be added to larger tanks with a better opportunity to provide for it naturally. Given many do not accept prepared foods readily and they often lived short lives from poor nutrition, a 30gal is not a good prospect.

thanks Steve

I was wondering if the Amblygobius rainfordi would be okay in a fuge, I'm planning on making a 30g fuge, it has to be "pretty" since I have no where to hid it, lots of different types of algeas, and was hoping that I would be able to put atleast one type of fish, that would't eat all the pods etc. would this species work or is their another one you would recommend?

thanks

okay so how does this sound as a stocking list:

2 neon gobies (will these school if you get 4 or 5?)

1 hi-fin

2 trimma gobies...

1 yellow jawfish

I will be moving anyone that doesn't get along/ and or my clowns(2) into the
30g "pretty" sump/fuge i'm in the process of setting up,

that's a 30g tall tank with a 35g sump/ fuge( the fuge will be roughly 20g)
