:mad:i have a certain rock that have this spiderweb thing over it...its a big long rock and thats where i put my zoas, some polyps get covered by this spider web thing and they seem to get irritated as they dont open fully.....i keep blowing it off but it keeps coming back:cry:.... i tried looking/researching cant find any info about it....please i need help how to get rid of this and what it is.....

thanks in advance:)

Luisse, are some whit and some black? Are they long and stringy? If so, they are sponges. Take the rock out if possible and scrub it down. Otherwise just keep on trimming. I have the same problem.

They are vermetid snails. I hate those things!!! Our zoo rocks are covered too. I guess you can crush em with pliers, or super glue em, or stuff like that, but i guess theyre like an algae, you don't overfeed & they die off. But i don't know, I'm ready to rip those rocks outta there.

they look exactly as spiderwebs....im not sure taichimaster if sponges can do or secretes stuff that look like spiderwebs...and jag3534,vermetid snails are long thread like white thing right?do they make this spiderwebs too?i see those vermetid snails they look like long thin worm but this one is like spiderwebs.....

Yeah, when they get bigger they can put out a ton of those things. If you grab the web really carefully & pull up, you'll probably see a bunch coming out of the same little snail hole. And if you have a bunch on one rock they're probably all tangled together like mine are. I have an emerald crab that likes to grab those webs & eat em. I say GO Crabby!

Look to the base of a spider web and see if you can find a spiral thin shell attached to the surface of the rock. If so, crush it or poke it to kill the non-moving snail/worm.

the problem is i cant find where it is,rock is encrusted of purple coralline plus its where all my zoos are...guess ill have to take the rock out,is this a good idea?im sure this is the only rock that has this spiderweb thing.....and i think herefishyfishy got it right coz i saw one that look like it as i took a closer look...but is there anything that would eat these worms?

No, I looked that up just a couple days ago, and Wetwebmedia said there is no reef safe thing you could add that'd eat em. We used to have a toby puffer that pecked at & ate everything on our rocks. He was cool, til he ate all the feather dusters, lol....

ok i found two of them and i poke it with a needle really poke it a lot...its too hard i cant crush it by hand so i just poke it..i hope i killed it.:D

Just poking it wont kill it because it will just hide deeper in its tube. You need to destroy the tube. Use pliers or something if you cant do it by hand.
