hey mate, i use 250W for my 6'x2' tank and found sps grow pretty well. so i think 250W should be fine.

However, if you don't want any supplement lighting (t5) then i personally would go 400W 20K MH for the blue look and the punch of PAR.

Have to agree w/ amashun...I'm running 400w 20K XM's on a 27" deep tank and it's perfect. I've gone through 150 - 250's to get to this point.

with that much sun in your area i would look into solar tubes beamed down into your tank from your roof, kinda like sky lights and supplement with t5. that is if you have the time and skills

Light

Need more info. Like your tank dimensions and wattage of the halide.
For example, if your light is 250 watts and is 4 inches off the top of a 20 gallon tank, then you probably have to much light. Or the opposite, a single 250 watt light on a 180 gallon tank would not be enough.

I have a 24 gal with 150W 20K Halide sun pod about 7 inches above the water line. Also on that sun pod there are some atininc leds.
