Starting a Reef tank thoughts and discussion

Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

the problem lies here is that the reefer might not know what he/she likes in a reef tank. Some people like the swaying and the movement softies offer... And some people likes the color stony corals offers. But in general, there should be a clear definition out there, soft corals are easy to maintain than hard corals. softies are more forgiving with water parameters, system husbandry, and reefers ability to maintain discipline within this hobby.

I see to often, new comers, burn their money "all out" just to find out that they have no time for up keeping, and quit the hobby all together.

this can also be said of a FO tank in the sense once the tank is cycled, instead of being patient and adding a fish at a time, they add 6-8 fish at once in a 29g tank and wonder why some of the fish die, or they have an algae bloom, or they have ich, which leads to not able to keep up with the maintenance required. you can hear them saying "this saltwater hobby is too hard" and leave the hobby.
