Sump/fuge plans....will this work?

already forgot the smell...(I work with organic solvents so the silicone smell is nothing in comparision) on another note...spraypainting indoors is a bad idea! ( spraypainted the stand and back of the tank today in my basement...on the new floor...paint everywhere...and i'm feeling...lightheaded?!) was to impatient for the weather to cooperate, didn't realize that spray paint sprayed so far..anyone know how to get it off linoleum?
Also, so now i have to start thinking about rigging up the outflow/return any tricks i should know before i go buy ppiping? like how do you attach the piping to the pump ( diameters are different)

alright so here is a shot of the sump/fuge that cannot be termed as "pretty" due to my subpar siliconing abilities, but hopefully it works...had such lofty dreams but i'm happy with it anyway.
Hopefully it doesn't leak...cause that would be bad
so here's the full/half empty tank shot ( making salt water at the moment) need to get a shelf for the super outlet power thing
and here's a pic of my AWSOME siliconing abilities...I really should become a "professional siliconer"...
i'll post some more pics once there is something to look at

What are you talking about ilek, it looks just fine!
You made it sound like there were finger smudges and handprints with silicone globs hanging all over the place.:lol: I don’t see any of that. Besides, once you get all the “pretty†stuff in there, who’s gonna be looking at the silicone?

I am pretty proud
but one question, I was a bit skimpy with siliconing the bottom of the first baffle and there's a bit of a leak into the return section, should I fix this? will this cause problems? or is it alright as it is?

How much of a leak?
Are you still planning to put sand in there?
Would the sand be able to get through this leak?
Since you’re still in the setup stages with this, it might be wise to drain it back out and re-apply another layer of silicone. It would at least ease your own mind of constantly wondering about it.

Alright so all is good now, added the water back in, and sand ( carib-live pink or whatever it's called) letting that settle and then going to get some rock and plug the overflow in tomorrow,
so I have a new question
I bought a used CPR overflow, should i clean it ( has some coralline and some green algea but i figure it'll be covered again in no time)? and how( if I should)? also I was told that rather then using an aqualift, you can plug it into a maxijet( i have 2 400 in my tank ) anyone know how? are mine strong enough( do you attach the outflow hole thing to the overflow one? how does this work? I don't get how that creats a syphon.
oh and I finally started using my remora, huge amount of bubble ( my candycane is mad at me) it's on my display tank right now, i think i will have to move it to the sump once it's all hooked up.

Well, unfortunately I don’t have any experience with either of these products so all I can offer you is hearsay...
People say the aqualifter’s are more reliable, but I’ve heard of people using a powerhead also. If you happened to keep the attachments that originally came with your maxi’s, there’s a venturi attachment that hooks up to the outflow end of the pump. Get a piece of airline tubing and attach one end to the little nipple opening on the venturi attachment, and the other end to the nipple opening on the top of the overflow.
I don’t know if you can see it in this picture or not, but here’s a link also showing the pump with most of the attachments on it.

When the powerhead is running, the water that is flowing through this venturi attachment will create a suction which will pull air out of the overflow siphon area, which in turn primes the siphon and the overflow starts to work. Remember, when you’re first setting this up, be sure to have water in both sections of the overflow (the one in the tank and the one hanging on the back of the tank) or it won’t start a siphon.
As for cleaning it... I’m sure you’ll clean it someday.

So I hooked the sump up to tha main tank, 2 gallons of water on the floor and 4 hours later ( was having some plumbing/gravity problems) but now it's hooked up, yay
unfortunatly my corals look made and the mag3 is blowing crazy amounts of water and all the corals closed up, I'm hoping that everyone will settle and the outflow tube will stay where it's suppose to be until tomorrow atleast.

Uggghh, I shouldn't have read the very last part. I'm getting ready to set up my overflow and sump/refugium this weekend and the whole "flood" idea has me terified!!! lol. ilektrik, glad you have everything up and running!!!
LOL Well, since I'm setting up a 75 gal with about an 18 gal sump/refugium...I'm more worried about LOTS of gallons all over the carpet!!! LOL. I'm going to call a few glass shops today and look into getting 1 hole drilled.

yeah my "leak" aka "water wants to go on floor NOW" was due to the outflow piping jumping out of my tank, I think i might have to get rigid pvc pipping so that it stays in place since it has to rest on top of the entire back glass.
but now i have a water spike, my alk is through the roof..not sure why I'm going to go post on the chemistry stuff.
