sump order

i was wondering what the "corect order in a sump should be? i have mine filter socks and skimmer in chamber one. then chaeto in the middle then the return. but ive seen some stuff lately where it goes sock and chaeto then the skimmer then return. is this to give the chaeto more gunk to absorb before the skimmer removes it all?

This has been debated for quite a while and I really don't think there is a right way vs wrong way. It also goes with how you design your sump.
I happen to like running the water into the sump to the skimmer first, then through the refugium.

Your first design is a good one with skimmer/refugium/return running skimmer first you can use a sock to polish water from time to time

I run the drain water through the sock then skimmer fuge return. I use a sock continuously cleaning it every couple days.
