lights just burnt out in my sister 55 gallon tank what light bulbs should she get to replace them?

the light its self is a tek 48" with 4 t5 fixtures (found it on cl for $100 with bulbs still mad that she found that before i did) all she has in the tank now are a few mushrooms here and there but nothing else really and not planing on puting anything else in for a while

URI, Geismann or ATI. all are very decriptive in thier coloring. So if she is maintaining soft corals go for look. 1 10k for sure though.

I would suggest 2 bulbs in the 10K color range and 1 in the Actinic color range. This would be a good combo:
2: 54W 10000K AquaSun
2: 54W 75/25 14000K AquaBlue
or replace one of the AquaBlue with
1: 54W Super Actinic

Put the 2 10K bulbs in the center and the 2 14K AquaBlues on either end...or an AquaBlue in front and the Super Actinic in back.

thanks i think all go with that and replace the one 14k with super actinic for that more purpuly-bluish look

That should be a great combination and have good color!! It'll also be enough lighting to allow the growth of most LPS, as well as Softies and you would probably have success with SPS in the upper portions of the tank!! Get pics!!!

do you really think that would enough lite for sps

what pics are you talking about

We want pics of the tank with the new lights!! LOL

As for SPS, I have a 75 gallon with the Tek5 6 bulb fixture. This tank is predominately SPS. I'm keeping very high light demanding Acropora from about mid tank and higher. I also have 2 T. croceas at about mid tank and a T. maxima a little lower. I also have a Purple Sebae anemone down on the sand. All are thriving.

You'll have 2 less lights to work with, but many SPS will do just fine in your tank, if kept high and all water parameter needs are met. Heck, I have an Orange Montipora cap growing under PC lighting, in another tank, and it's growing well. Many of the Montipora species aren't near as high light demanding as some of the other SPS corals. There are even Acropora species that don't need as intense lighting as others.

So, to answer your question, YES, there's quite a few SPS corals you'll be able to keep under that light. Just keep them high, and as I said, as long as other parameters that SPS need are met, they'll do just fine.
