Well hope you enjoy, and post all your pix!

Later,
Tom

Nice to meet you Tom, my name's Eliyah.

The tank looks really nice, can't wait until mine looks that great. Here are some pics of my tank, only a 30 gallon with 110w PC's.
I will be getting a 175w IceCap retro next week and can't wait to see what I can turn this tank into. Plumbing in my 20 gallon sump this weekend, and removing the canister filter as well.

Someday this tank will look like yours Tom.
See you on Saturday.

Eliyah, nice to meet you too, looking forward to meeting in person on Saturday! I personally think that your tank looks like a great start! Once you get your new light and sump set up things will really start taking off. I started with a 29 gallon setup that I ran for 6 months that looked a lot like yours, it also had a cannister filter on it :) The best thing I ever did was get a sump, it started as a rubbermaid and then recently I made a bigger one from acrylic.

Thank you for the nice compliments, I have worked long and hard to get my reef going, and it gets better every day!

Tom

what is that growing on your right overflow?

It Pom Pom Xenia. I pick off a couple hundred colonies every 90 days or so. Mostly on the rocks and corals. I leave the stuff on the sides, back, and overflow alone.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi my name is Cesar and I am going this Saturday. I dont have a picture of my tank yet but I will soon....

Esmith, what is your specs.... type of salt you use... supplements? addittives? anything you can share...

The reason I am asking is that... your palytoa/zoanthids is really different than mine.... whats interesting is that when I bought it at LFS they look the same but on my tank its different... so I bet its the water but what....

I am using IO now, since the last 2 -3 weeks but before that it was Tropic Marin, before I tested for phosphates...~1.0.

I am only adding SeaChem Reef Calcium (Maintenance) when needed (it's really low all of a sudden, dropped to 350 after switching to IO, so every day now), one drop of Lugols Iodine once a week, SeaChem ReefBuilder & ReefBuffer when needed (about once a week), and Marc Weiss Reef Vital DNA once a week, although I am going to dicontiue using this to see if really has any affect.

These were purchased from Marine Depot.

They really get a lot of food, I feed Krill and mysis to the tank, and when I pour it in these guys get the first pass at it, and every one of them seems to be closed up eating. Most of the ones on the top are about the size of a 50 cent piece.

Lighting is only 2 55w PC's, 1 10K and actinic.

Hope this helps, I'd like to see what yours look like sometime so that I could really understand the differences.

Eliyah

palythoa

Cesar, I think that it may have more to do with type of lighting and how far they are from the lights. I have several colonies that vary from looking like the ones that Eliyah has to the ones that look like the color that yours are. They have all been derived from the same mother colony, and their color varies depending on how much light they are getting. I have found that the darker more green ones are more in the shade, and they seem to turn more of a rusty color when under more direct lighting. That is only my experience. HTH

Caesar, I like that colony of yours. I actually want to get some Zoo's, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Matt, like your colony too. It looks like a furry rock :) .

Both of you have MH lighting which is what I am lacking, I am going to be getting a 175 watt setup from someone next week, so it will be interesting to see what happens...will they change color (I hope not). If anything I would like to see them even more florescent green.

Does anyone know if you can frag these by cutting them off, and getting them to re-attach to another rock? I wouldn't mind doing some since this colony I have is getting huge.
In fact, the other day when I came home the rock which these are attached to was standing up  , what happened is that there are polyps starting to grow towards the bottom of this rock and when they expanded they forced the rock to stand up. I quickly moved this into a better position so that it won't happen again, or at least until the polyps completely cover this rock like a ball (I think that would be great, other than not being able to attack it anywhere).

Eliyah

i'm not sure how you frag these. i'd assume you could just pop off a couple polyps and put them on another rock and hopefully they'd reproduce.

i've kept my zoo rocks away from the rest of my rocks so they don't spread quickly. i wouldn't mind putting a piece of the rock and attaching it to the back glass and let them spread along the glass (if that is possible)

I played with mine also in terms of location/intensity of light... but the nearer they get to the MH the more they shrink as in really small and no tentacles.... grrrrr.... :(

now they are in very little light ... actually indirect light....
imagine i have a 36inch front under 1x175mh-on center... so my left and right side of the tank resides the softies including my zoo...

and when you turn off the mh... they become like the one on the pic....

weird....

and in addition... i frag 1 piece of zoo in one rock and that was six months ago... still solo flight.... hmmm.... a lot of people complaining about how fast they grow... but mine is like a pic.... they never change....

very weird...

Hi Cesar, I am from Lakewood. I will be at the meeting, and am looking forward to meeting some new reefer people!
