Charlie,
I have a Tang Farm. There is yellow, blue, purple, scopus, Powder Blue and a lipstick tang (naso). I love my Tangs very much. That is why I was worried about pistol zapping them. :)

No problem Ed, I knew that!!!!! I was just comparing stress. Hope you got a good sense of humor, or else you are buying my beer again at the Tri-Cities meeting.:D :D :D

Just in case anybody else is suprized by what the cause of the sound is, I found this info from http://www.wildsingapore.com/chekjawa/text/g341.htm
as follows:

"The snapping sound is not made by the fingers actually hitting each other. Rather, a high-speed jet of water shoots out due to the extremely rapid compression of the fingers. This jet vapourises the water and creates a bubble. When the bubble collapses, the sound results. Not only that, a flash of light is also emitted! These findings are possibly useful for naval applications as the sound of snapping shrimps seriously interfere with sonar detection in shallow seas. In fact, snapping shrimps have been studied since World War II as their sounds interfered with the detection of hostile submarines!"

So, appearently, the flash would be from sonoilluminesence frequencys occuring as the bubble colapses. I find that really amazing.

I might be the only one that didnt allready know, but I thought that info was too cool not to share.

The Goby really quiets them down alot. Thanks James

Hey Ed this is quite true with my pairs as well the Pistols that have accepted my gobies I never hear and the other 4 well snap-snap 24-7 If you ever get to see it you will see very small leggs under it pinchers these legs are constantly cleaning & Scavaging the bottom. Ed I just think you need to trap him and bring him down to Umatilla:D

You should be fine BB... Just dont walk around with the Windows Open LOL...

I have seen others with BB tanks and a Goby pistol pair... The Goby really quiets them down alot... The noise is becasue something is Scaring them... The Goby such as the Watchman watches out and warns the shrimp and you hardly hear them afterwards unless something really bothers them... Its definetly a sight to see..

Ok heres one for ya. Four months ago i got a pare of camelback shrimp. One jumped out the day i got him. The other is doing fine, except you never see him, you only here him. When ever you approach the tank he makes a small snapping noise. I assume like a pistol but its pretty quiet. I have live rock and have never head this before the camelback. I have also not added anything except a clown gobie to the tank sence the camelback. So maybe other shrimp can make this noise also?
