Well my old Hippo (10year+) is starting to look old, his blue is starting to leave him. He is getting spotty clear looking skin. I hope he makes it alot longer, I am going to start giving more vitamins and see if that helps but I never had an old fish so I am not sure what they should look like. Anyone know if this is common in older fish

Not sure...I've never had a fish that long. Must be a tough thing to see an old buddy possibly on the way out. Hope he pulls through and gives you another 10.

So how long are they to live anyways, I would think ten years is a long time, hard to think about that I know but what are the limits.

My Oscelaris clown pair are going strong at around 16 years. They do certainly get older and grumpy looking as they age, well, not really, they are still very cute :) But color does change after time. I hope to continue having my clowns for many years to come (crossing my fingers).

As fish grow old(er), they need better nutrients, just like humans.

I would soak your foods in Selco, or maybe soak nori in it before you put it on the clip.

Lots of high quality veggies, and some mysis will help.

That is what I do now, all fish get their food soaked in Vitachem or Selcon and I feed them Formula One, Formula Two, and Angel Formula from Ocean Nutrition. I also feed them Frozen Spirulina Enriched Brine Shrimp, Frozen mysis, and Emerald Entree by San Francisco Bay Brand and I give them Nori, cyclopeeze, and Spectrum Marine Pellets

it is a great feeling, That was the second Fish I purchased when I started over 10 years ago, he has made several tank moves, house moves, and mistakes I have made with the tank, he is a tough fish. My first fish was a half black Angel that I lost when I added a larmarks angel, I think it killed the half black angel.

Here are all my fish that I have in my two systems and when I got them. Blue Spotted RabbitFish Siganus corallinus (Purchased 6/2003) housed in the 300 gallon grow-out tank, Purple Tang (purchased 1/2000), Hippo Tang (purchased 1995), White-faced Tang (purchased 6/2002), Lamarks Angel (Purchased 2/2004), Emperor Angel (purchased 5/2003), 5 Green Chromis (purchased 1/2001), 2 MandarinFish (male purchased 2/2003, female purchased 3/2004 Male passed about May 2005), Green Clown Goby (purchased 5/2003 passed way), Yellow Clown Goby (purchased 2/2004), 2 Red Scooter Blennies (purchased 8/2002) Male pasted away 1/2005, Rabbitfish Siganus doliatus (purchased 1/2003)
