Thoughts?

While setting up my tank I dropped the bucket of sand I was pouring and it created this huge crack in my tank. (See my build thread) long story short, I got a patch kit and its still leaking. Before I trash this tank or buy a new one I decided I would post on here seeking some much needed advice. Should I just put a bucket under the leak and continue on with the build or does anyone see bad things coming from that? Here are some pics of before and after the patch. The leak that is coming from it now is a very slow leak but it still has a drop maybe every minute or two.

is it worth the headache of worrying whether or not the tank is or is not going to flood your house...to me, it is worth the piece of mind to get a new tank.

Ypou could buy a sheet of acrylic the size of the bottom of the tank and glue a whole new bottom under the original..
Just have to redrill the overflow holes!!
Alot of weldon will be needed but can be done..

Yeah the price for a sheet of acrylic that big is just as much as the tank. I agree with you NC2WA. I was just hoping that I was over reacting.

not really you could get a 3/8ths sheet 4x8 for less then 2500$

Is the slow leak dripping into a sump underneath? To me, that doesn't seem like it's a huge issue. From another point of view, I can see potential danger in the crack getting bigger with more weight on top of it (i.e. water, decorations, live rock, sand, etc). However, a 260 gallon tank is EXPENSIVE! I agree with myteemouse's suggestion in this case and just fix the bottom. In the end, that will be a LOT cheaper than purchasing a whole new tank.

no I ment the price of the tank (your 265) new would be around $2500

True. No its not dripping into the sump. I was already thinking of just making a ramp type thing into the sump from the leak so It just drained right back into the sump but then I started to think about if it started to leak more if I put more weight and water in it.

lol...Oh gotcha! Yeah its pretty expensive. I was hoping to find a nice used tank on here that was 260 gal or up for a bit cheaper. :doubt: Granted the $308 for a new sheet of acrylic is cheaper than what I paid for this tank.

I was just thinking of cheeper options than a new tank..
If money was not an issue. I would get a new tank..
If money is tight you fix what you got..
A new bottom glued to that one would be a spendy but good fix.

Yeah I wish money was no option but wishes are just that. I will just have to start pumping out water and taking out sand and see what I can do.

If you want a definitive answer, I would call Jason at CFI and ask him...he WILL give you a straight up answer.

the extra weight of the water concerns me as the crack will spread and then you have a mess on your hands...

might be worth a call first...
