I can't seem to figure out how to get my white balance or something set right all my pics look fine on the quick view screen but once I put them on teh computer thay are either really really dark or blue...and just blue....

Help

Canon XTI body.

We have a Nikon and Adam helped us a lot on the camera settings. Since they have a Cannon so he knows them well. I'm sure he or Crystal can give the best guidance locally. We had to set our white balance specific to our tank. There are some other setting that I don't remember exactly. They are just saved in our camera on the manual setting.

Well under MH I drop my ISO and speed up my shutter so that not as much light goes to the sensor....under actinics I would think that I lower my ISO and slow my shutter to trap more light so they aren't so dark. I think the main problem is getting a white balance I believe.

do you have any before and after shots with messing with your white balance? interested in seeing results because i have the same issues with shooting under actinic.

iso 400 fstop 5.8, shutter speed 1-10-1/30?!?! give it a go.
THEN set your white balance HEAVY RED. And they will come out better
To set heavy red, take a white piece of something and put it in your tank then shoot it and tell the camera it's suppose to be white. shoot over and over till the pics come out too red WITH MH's ON.
then shoot the pics with just actinics on and see if it works.

by too red I meen all your pics with custom white balance with MH's on they are more red than anything!

Shooting under actinics? Seems an odd thing to do but it's the same. Steady breathing, arms relaxed, focus on the target and blur the sights...squeeze don't pull. Pop, pop, pop. Let me know how that works for you.

Seth, bring your camera to SeaMax, I'll give you some pointers

Will Do!

I didn't really mean the physical part of shooting but the camera setup. Why is it a strange thing to do? Lots of corals put off colors you can only see under 453nm type lighting. I want some cool glowing pics.

 I think he missed the joke Mike.
And he with a gun in his avitar!

LOL Damn...see what happens when I post without coffee! New rule coffee first posting later!

Wow Seth, I think all this time off is making you a lil soft. Not enough adrenaline in your system, this could be easily fixed by driving for 1/2 hour a day on 405 or I-5... would sharpen you right up.

Cheers, Todd

I know right....I think I need to go do something destructive. It's cool i'm gonna go outta westport Sunday. I'll just make sure to tell the ocean it's a lil ^$%% first. That should help the adrenaline. LOL

Yeah, my first Salmon trip last weekend sure got my blood to boiling. Launched the boat then about 3 miles to where we dropped our 4 crab traps and another 3 miles to Pt No Pt to start fishing. After two drifts and a half dozen Flounders my once ever-so-reliable Evinrude decided that the old gas was just not to its liking. Spent the whole time that the 'Bite was on' yankin on the damn pull cord then eventually rowing for an hour back to the beach (at least it was the beach in front of our cabin). Had a neighbor drive me up to launch to retrieve truck/trailer, came back to the hassle of dragging boat up beach (minus tide) to re-trailer. Worked on outboard for a couple hours so able (barely) to go back an re-launch to retrieve crab pots. THEN THE TOPPER ! We got three of four traps PICKED ! #1 = no crab and chewed up bait, #2 = no crab and really chewed up bait, #3 = SEVEN big male crabs and chewed up bait and #4 no crab and bait nearly gone. My blood pressure up again just typing this lol Next time out crabbing I'm using your avitar as backup.
Anywho, good luck fishing man.

Cheers, Todd

Well if my boat would run right I would be out in sound....but it isn;t anf i don't know how to work on an Evinrude outboard...so yeah
