i purchased a very nicely coloured tomato clown its probably about 5 inches. if i buy another tomato of the same size will they fight and the dominate one becomes female or will they just not get along

also, can i do this in a 55?

pair of tomato clowns
coral beauty angelfish
yellow watchman goby
royal gramma
3 banjai cradinals
4-6 green chromis.

all decent sized fish and are relatively reef-safe although the angel "could" do some polyp picking

thoughts?

any suggestions on how to indroduce second tomato clown?

all i have in the tank is 1 tomato and a molly (lol). had a tang but it got killed unfortunately

the tomato's that i have had in the past were aggressive to each other..i have had to trade one or two in..i have a tomato and a clarkii now..they go at it every now and then, but they don't inflict any damage...is that a tomato clown from Figi..one of the lfs' here sells the ones like that with the black on it..they call it a figi tomato clown..i don't know if that is correct or not!

i dont know but i know what your saying. i like it much better then regular tomatoes as far as appearance goes

it looks like a cinnamon to me too. i had one for a long time and they need more space than you have with the other fishes you listed. the clown will rule the tank and if its been in the tank for a while by itself it will probably fight with any you add. they are beautiful fish and fun to watch if you get a large anemone for it.

Lustrous red, and a lot of blue in the band and less well defined border to the stripe. Have had many Melanopus clowns, in fish only tanks (with anemone) Great fish, but quite territorial. Can be aggressive, particularly towards other Clownfish. This fish is best acquired as a juvenile should be kept singly or in mated pairs. It will attack other Clownfish and passive tankmates.

This is a good site for identification

Def a cinnamon clown. I have one in my tank. I had two and would have none if I could catch the mean little #%*&.:p

Your stocking list seems on the heavy side to me. You may want to rethink your choices. I would lose the cardinals and chromis, and keep a smaller livestock list. It would help alleviate some aggression issues due to smaller territorial spaces. Check the thread that was linked to you previously for information on introducing a second clown to the tank. If the clown is aggressive, then I'd try and stay away from passive tank mates that might get picked on by the clown.

Hope this helps!

Again, definitely melanopus (cinnamon). I have two. MEAN fish. Second only to the gold stripe maroon. At that size (5") they're most definitely already sexed, and female. Adding another will result in one dead and one injured cinammon. I'd also suggest you'll never get this clown to pair. I've had two in my tank almost two years, and both were brought in as juveniles. They're notoriously difficult to pair. They still fight for territory, and the larger one will attack my hand any time it gets in the water.

When I upgrade to a larger tank, neither of these fish will make it over. I'm sorry to be so negative. However, I'd not add another cinammon clown.

then what would you say would be suitable reef safe tankmates

how about just the clown and a coral beauty?

since i only seen one other "cinnamon" clown which was the same size, can i get a small tomato clown to go w/ this one. it will be the male. even if they dont reproduce they can get along and pair off. they are closely related

Read the info in that link I posted. The discussion of clownfish started by Elmo. It answers ALL your questions you have asked. No reason to set up fish for a fight and eventual death. If you want a list of tough fish that can be put with a huge clown, try Lionfish, trigger, etc. Problem is that a 55 will only hold so many big fish unless heavily filtered. Means lots of live rock and a big skimmer.

I most certainly wouldn't mix a tomato and cinammon. This was actually my original combination (due to mis-ID), and the two ALWAYS fought.

Again, I hate to be such a downer, and so negative on the cinammon, but this fish's attitude doesn't make up for its demeanor, in my opinion.
