All 3 different colonies of tri color start to turning brown,,losing color,,other doing great grow rate incresed,,what is happening in the past 2months are:
1.leaked co2 on my ca reactor(just found the leak and aready fixed it),,alk dropping (was always running bt, 3.4-3.8) to 2.6-2.8,,after fixed the co2 leaked,,alk went back up and now stable at 3.2-3.6,,,that the problem?
2.Ca was low at 360(always bt 390-410),,then i used Kent turbo calcium to buffer it up to 400(first time ever used ,,mormally used seachem reef calcium) that the problem?
3.past 2-1/2 month start to used Rowa phos instead of phosgard,,that the problem?.
could any one can tell me where is the problem coming from,,, my tri color are turning brown.
thanks ,dang

Dang - I also would like to know about your lighting, and how old the bulbs are. This began 2 months ago? I'm not sure if the switch from Phosguard to Rowaphos would be the problem. Seems most issues are normally because the introduction of any phosphate sponge, not necessarily one brand. Any other changes you can think of with water parameters or new supplements? I'll have to think on this one....

Humm, mine that I got from E-Tropicals (wasnt much of a tri-color when it arrived) and hasnt improved much since getting it a month ago. So I am feeling you on this one. Not sure I got an answer for you though.....I will be tagging along on this one for sure.

i got 3-10k 400w ushio,3- 5 footer VHO supper actenic blue,,they are 9-10 month old.,,i do water change every week about 20 gals my 180 gals tank,,just wonder while other doing fine?

I am gonna go back to my original theory and say that they are lookin' for more lite. I am no expert, that's for sure. Can you try moving one of them, looking for more lite, maybe more current also? Maybe with a little trial and error you can figure this out

Let me answer that with another question. What type of ballast do you have? Hqi ballast will drive bulbs a little harder, and if that is the case, yes, maybe your bulbs are getting a bit old. It would be nice to figure this out before you start changing bulbs out. That gets expensive.

I don't buy the need more light. you have 3, 400 watt 10K in a 180gal tank if I am reading it right? that is enough light to grow SPS on your sand bed. I am going to throw a different spin on this, what has you tank temp done in the last couple months? is it on an average hotter now that it was summer than it was in the winter? an average temp change of 3 or 4 degrees will brown my acro's pretty fast, so if you had a heat wave for a weekend or week and saw your tank temp climb that could be your culprit. Now also your Alk dropped as well so this could have contributed also. I find my color dulls when my Alk gets low also.

I know that Dang just added a chiller on his tank.

Dang take a good picture of it, so you will have a before and after shots. You can compare it better this way.

Having seen Dang's tank. I think it is not the light. I think it is more on chemistry issue.
Dang, what about other inhabitants? Were they affected? Picture of the tri-color?

Good luck my friend.

I have tri-colors about middle range in my 180 under both 400w 20000k and 400w 6500k. I have not had a problem with not having enough light, if phosphates are high that could be a problem, I would just let the tank settle for a while and see what happens. A low Alk could have also cause the problem and it will just take time for them to recolor

i got 3 differnt colonies all three of them took effected, not the others ,,are growing and stay good color.
temp swing less than 1 degree 78.5-79.3,alk issue???? good question??,will keep up date and post some pics.,thanks your guy.

my tri-color start to show color on the tips again(was brown),other happening,,all of my majano anemones(hundered of them) also melting away dying?????? :) ,,very good!!,,question is what kill them?,,Rowaphos is cause all of those above,,at this time no RP in my tank since the last post.
