My mated true perc decided to lay eggs on my reef tank, and the eggs as i write this have to 2 black spot (i guess their eyes) and i am now pressured by both my wife and daughters to keep them, has anyone had a suggestion.

thanks,
Robert

ok this is what i remember
the babys eat rotifiers, i believe you have to remove the eggs and put them in a different tank because otherwise they are gonna be lunch for your fishes.
Elmo uses a tile, so the clowns lay their eggs there.

Nikki posted this website in another thread, so maybe it can help you a little.
from what i've read usually Elmo (ilham) let the first batch go, so the next batch is bigger.
hmm i think that's all i can remember for now.
you should try contact ilham, so he can give you more advice dood.

I agree, contact Ilham (Elmo18) and he might be able to arrange to collect the fry when they hatch. He also has all the facilities in place for raising and feeding them. Unfortunately you won't be able to get cultures together in just a few days that would support those fry. With a little notice and a lot of work you could do it another time around, which will most likely happen in a few weeks ;) . Good luck, that's very cool that they've spawned for you!

Yeah, I read first batches are usually bad or not worth too much effort but I don't know if that is because they are weak or just few in number-few is ok by me :) The fewer you have the fewer to feed...
Putting a flowerpot or tile (or both) near the spot they spawned after this batch hatches may give you something more usable next time, which you can remove just prior to hatching and put in another tank with water from the parents' tank.
You will need a tank of rotifers, greenwater cultures and selcon. If you are not up to it Ilham, UW Scotch and the couple who ran My Coral Beauty have been raising clowns. Then next batch you could have the cultures ready and try it yourself. Also might want to set up a sponge filter in the sump of your main tank and have it ready to go for when the fry arrive.
Viability depends a great deal on feeding of the parents, they may make many eggs fed flake, but the fry probably will die within 2 weeks at metamorphosis. Feeding frozen and/or HUFA and astaxanthin enhanced foods definitely is important. This may be a good reason to not raise this batch and focus more on future breeding efforts.
Check out Joyce Wilkerson's book, she lays it all out in detail.

thanks for all your inputs, i was not expecting this to happen and was not prepared for it, i will email elmo to see if he can take them.

Well my box is full...and not much time yet to check and delete them all lol...

Robert is this their first nest?

Best,

Ilham

i am not sure what you meant by 1st nest- this is the 1st time for me- the eggs as i write has their 2 black spots already-they were laid on wednesday (day b4 thanksgiving)

Robert, if you can, take a photo of the eggs or both parents/eggs.

I'm jetting back out, but will be back in a cuople hours...we will probably skip this batch, but we'll work somethign out for the next one if I have time ..

Best,

Ilham

Very very nice photos there Robert.

I am going to restart some cultures now, but may take a couple days to bloom. It looks like the eggs have a couple more days before hatching.

PM me your address and contact, and what we can do is I can drag them here, and see how many survive. In the meantime, do NOT change anything in the tank, I mean do not disturb them too much.

It is a small nest at the moment...

Best,

Ilham
