I am happy to host the website on my Server and do it for free. It's also just a jump to a different Window to make changes almost instantly.

I'll contact my registrar and see if that 60 days after a change can possibly be shortened.

Vicki, nothing against you but I would like to keep the registrar to be a BOD. It keeps things easier and will ensure easier transfer of registrar in the future to a new BOD.

I'm not sure I understand just what you're saying, but by Registrar, I meant the Domain Registrar that I'm using that would redirect the website to my server.

oh, I see. I have updated the DNS entries on godaddy.com to point to DNSEXIT servers.
ns1.dnsExit.com
ns2.dnsExit.com
ns3.dnsExit.com
ns4.dnsexit.com

Now, you just need to login to dnsexit.com and modify the DNS entry of thepsas.org to your IP address.

Works 4 me now. Must have just been a temporary issue as both times I used the link in Ghazni's signature. Last night I just kept getting the godaddy homepage.

You cannot just edit the DNS entries and point them to DNSExit.com without having registered and initiating the transfer with DNSExit.com. The Transfer needs to be done through DNSExit.com first. Once the Transfer is complete, then I just need to know the Username and Password of the account created to be able to keep the DNS updated. The ownership of thepsas.org will remain as it is now, in your name, and the only thing I'll have access to is the DNS update to forward the URL to my server.

The Transfer information needed is in a prior post in this thread.

Since this process will take up to 60 days to complete, I strongly recommend that you just do the 'redirect' as I've mentioned in previous posts.

The redirection, as you mentioned in a PM, doesn't seem to be working. Maybe I need to clear my browser's history.

Vicki,
I am using the nameservers of godaddy.com and pointed it to the IP address of your server (which I got by pinging thepsas.com website). That was all that's needed to be done.

The Nameserver changes replicate slowly. But I have been able to hit thepsas.org and go to your website from my home and work.

Please try it again. It should be hitting your server.

Yes, it's working at the moment, but it won't as soon as my IP address changes.

I see. If you've an account at DNSExit, you can just point it to the IP address and I will update the NameServer to point to the NameServers of DNSExit.

Alternately, I have an account @ DNSExit too and I can make the changes if appropriate permissions are available.

Yes, I have an account at DNSExit and have the DNS Exit IP updater installed on the system. Whenever the IP address changes, the IP updater contacts DNSExit and their DNS servers update what the IP is on the 'net'. It works within seconds.

If you already have an account at DNSExit, it may be simple for you to transfer ThePSAS.org to DNSExit. Without the transfer, DNSExit is just going to bounce the name servers back to GoDaddy, as DNSExit is a business and wants your business to process the DNS.

Once the transfer is complete, I only need the name of the account used on DNSExit and the password. This is so the IP updater can update the IP address changes. I 'personally' will not be using the account at all, just the program to update the IP. It's the program itself that needs that information.

This is really so simple, yet you're making it so complicated.

Start the Transfer of the Domain Registrar from GoDaddy to DNSExit.

Contact Paul (and apologize, if necessary) and have him continue to host the website until the transfer is complete.

Edit the main htm(l) page with the redirect information that I've already posted. Delete everything else in the directory on Paul's server.

We're done! That simple.

Vicki, the 2 steps below need to happen in parallel. This is what need to happen:

1. I need to change the nameservers from godaddy to point to DNSEXIT servers. At this point, Paul's website is inactive as soon as DNS servers start getting updated

2. Once this happen, someone needs to go to DNSExist.com shortly and tell to route thepsas.org to your ipaddress.

Do you have IM or something where we can both be online and do it together? If yes, tell me the time when we can sit together and get it done.

Paul is hosting the website till I ask him to take it off but Step # 1 is effectively removing Paul's server out of rotation. so, some website will hit Paul's server and some website will hit your server till all the DNS servers in the world are updated (which can take up to a week because of some slow DNS server)

You cannot just change the NameServers on GoDaddy to DNSExit without first doing the Transfer of the Domain Registrar to DNSExit. GoDaddy needs to be completely out of the picture. The DNSExit website mentions that 60 days may be needed to accomplish this IF there have been changes to the ownership of the Domain Name in the past 60 days.

Again, once the transfer is complete, it's just simple to update DNSExit's servers with the program I run here; once I know the Account Name and Password.

Hey webmasters, When I view the website there are areas where the text is overlapping (October meeting info, the first line is over the top of the menu) Is it just me?
