Today my watanable angelfish finally arrive, in fact he is in the aclimatation progress but he is infected with ick, I just reallize it when he was under the light in his bag, I dont have any qt tank, what can I do:confused:

Do not put it in an established ick free tank. Set up a temp tank out of a bucket, a large plastic box can work well too if you have to until you can get something better that allows you to inspect closely. Even if you use a faster treatment using medication instead of hypo, will still need to be quarantined.

Juanfer, I agree with Mike. Under no circumstances put him in the display. Find a cheap tank with filter to put him in as bobt suggested. For treatment there is a ton of info in Steve Skinner's forum here. Hyposalinity is slow but seems to work the best for me and the fish.

EDIT - Oops, just saw the last post. Sorry to hear that. For the future have a spare tank ready and already-cycled media in your sump ready to be used as a filter.

Even though you should always be ready to treat any new fish in a quarantine tank... IME angels, tangs, and butterflies are especially problematic and you should EXPECT them to come with ich.

In fact sometimes I've been able to get a "parasite discount" at the LFS

that's too bad Juanfer...i hope you find a new one!!!!!

Slick, that might as well be my slogan!!!!!! LOL

Thank you guys for eveything, now that I learn my lesson I'm buying a qt tank, the petstore will give me a new angel though but I'm not sure!!

Funny you should say that Ron, I was thinking about you when I wrote it. How is that Powder Brown doing?
LOL...that's funny...i added the PB to my display a few weeks ago..it hasn't had any spots, but it picked up a slight bacterial inf..i literally just finished doing a 25g WC on my display tank..i did one last week and i have to continue them until the infection gets better!!! my hippo's are doing really well..i am in the process of raising the salinity back up!!!

Sad news about the death.

It is very important with new arrivals that the fish be removed form the shipping bag as soon as possible. This is especially so of ones purchased though e-tailers and package shipped. Ammonia, cold and low pH being your greatest concerns. Having a prepared QT ready for their arrival can make all the difference to your success. The sooner the fish is removed from that bag, the surer it's chances of living. Acclimation stress is pretty much the #1 killer of new fish. If the fish did have C. irritans, it was not the cause of the fish's death. With the QT, you can easily manipulate the water to match that of the bagged shipping water. Salinity, pH and so on. The fish can then be easily transitioned over a series of days instead of minutes!!

Was the fish transfered from the bag to a bucket or remained in the bag? If the bucket, how did you get the water? From the display tank or newly made?

Steve, Thanks for the great suggestion. I have always done it the other way around and thus much too quickly. Been lucky on losses so far, but suspect your method is superior. The only thing that gets matched the other way around would be the temp and oxygen levels.

Your biggest concerns with the shipping bag are ammonia, temp, O2 levels and low pH. Although the fish is in danger of those killing it, dramatically altering salinity, temp and pH too quickly can also kill it. The easiest solution is to place the animal in a tank where they can be matched and altered slowly even if lower than desireable. Obviously ammonia needs to be eliminated immediately.

LOLOLOL

Too late, just dumped half a bottle of sudsy into the QT;)

So the tank parameters to match to the bag would be the salinity, alkalinity, and PH and match the bag to the desired temp while getting the oxygen level up ASAP?

thanks for the suggestion but I couldnt get him out from his bag (He died in there like in 3 minutes!!!) I was waiting for the temperature in the tank to get at the same temp, that the bag :(

You have to be careful with what you do on the aeration of the bag. Let it sit unopened to equalize temp 15-20 min. This will allow the pH to rise a little but not drastically. Raising the pH too much while the fish is in the bag is not a good idea. Ammonia becomes more toxic at higher pH values. Open the bag and remove whatever samples are needed for salinity and pH, then add a shot of dechlorinator that will also detoxify ammonia. Test the salinity, pH and adjust the QT as needed without delay. Once salinity, pH and temp are a match; remove the water from the bag and gently release the fish into the QT. There is no need to acclimate as long as those three are a good close match. Alkalinity is unimportant to the fish in this regard.

I don't prefer it. Your adding an acid to a small water volume. It'd be much safer using something like club soda. It would add CO2 that would reduce pH without affecting the alk or adding an additional carbon source.
