We already have our nano reef forum, member showcase forum and so thanks to Bill and his amazing 20,000 gal aquarium which is hand's down the largest tank that has ever been showcased here on RF, we are proud to announce our large tank section to you!! :)

This section will be dedicated to any tank with a display volume of 300 gals or more (not total system volume-Just display volume). This section can be used to either showcase your builds or if anyone has questions concerning tanks that fit this category like what is needed to set up and maintain them, lighting options etc, this will be the place to discuss them. We would like to thank Bill for the idea which Kirk pushed to make it a reality and also the admins (Mojo and Scooty) for allowing it. Let's not let this section go to waste! If you have friends on other forums with tanks that fit this category, invite them over to share their systems with us! This section would be a great place to honor those that have the guts to tackle the biggest of systems. :)

With that said, I ask that anyone who has a tank that fits this category, to please chime in here with a link to their thread and I will move your thread over to this section. I know of a few already off hand to move which I will get to now, but any others, just post me a link and I will handle the rest!

Hope you enjoy the new forum!!! I think it will be a great addition!!! :peace:

AAWWW MAN should have made it 250 or more..
:(
my new tank is gonna be exactly 250usgal. in water (not just the tank size I subtracted the inch of water from top of the tank that would be 262 usgal. )

Adam, you better add a few inches to that tank of yours :p. We went with 300 gals because we wanted to go with a tank that you typically couldn't buy from a manufacturer. All-glass/Aqueon makes tanks in the 250 gal range so we said we'd go a step above.

Also, Kirk I sent you a pm. I moved one of your threads over with the live feed, but I'll let you move your personal build thread over yourself because I don't know which one you want to move over. :)

Lol with very few people having displays of 300 or more, it's going to be a slow forum...

Well Sid, the purpose is to have a section for people with tanks in this range to be able to display it in it's appropriate group and stand out a bit. Also, you have people out there considering going big, but aren't sure what is needed, cost etc so we said instead of leaving it up to people to weed through all of the members showcase forum threads here to find the guys with the big tanks to ask the questions, they now have a section they can come directly to to get their questions answered. Also, we hope to get more people signing up here as well to display their big tanks. Just hearing by word of mouth we have a new section for tanks over 300 gals may get new members signing up here to show off their stuff. This section will be just like the nano section. People with questions related to small tanks go directly to that forum to ask their questions or display their nano's so it will work the same way. It may be slow here, but atleast things will be grouped properly for ease of finding things.:)

Oh I completely understand the purpose of it, just saying it's not going to get a whole lot of use. I've been trying to talk Angie into a Marineland 300DD, to go along with our 200DD, but not having much luck lol. I'll keep trying though!

Tell Angie that you need the 300 gal for a few reasons...More volume equals more stability, more water means more fish and corals and also, you can make it into the large tank section! :D

Mike,

Just tell Angie, gimme one 500g tank and the other two tanks will go away. :D:D

Drat.

My new build is 96X24X30" with 1/2 acrylic. The external dimensions are 299.2 gal. Can I include the external coast to coast? I will have a 125 gal sump + another few gallons in the skimmer.

Can I be a member of the 1000L+ club?

I have some time to make a build thread if I get the green light.

I think that will work, we just wanted to define large tanks so we came up with a number as to just not have everything show up here. The only thing we ask is to document as much as possible because of cost and issues it is important to share for those thinking of going big! :ear:

I would have loved to have this forum as a reference while I was planning my build, as I used many large tank build threads for ideas, this would have made it a lot easier to find those threads!

Krish, I would be honored to have my build thread thread added to this elite group: http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/f70/kris-390g-drop-ocean-37373/ I will have to do an update soon with the changes. . . .
