i have two really large RBTAs bought separately. what causes RBTA to split? mine are getting too big. Thanks!

If it's getting too big, just do it yourself. It is a very simple thing to do.
It's so easy, even a caveman could do it. REALLY. 1st put on gloves, then gently get your finger in between him and whatever he is attached to.Take your time and SLOWLY work it out. You don't want to damage the foot. This is the hardest part of the whole thing, it took me 5 min. Next, place him on a dinner plate, foot down and mouth up. Next, get ketchup  just kidding. You will be able to clearly see the mouth. Now, get your SHARPEST NOT serrated knife or blade. Now just slice down the center ,being very careful to divide it, and especially the mouth into 2 equal halves. Next, In a bucket of aquarium water GENTLY swirl it to remove slime. then let it stay in bucket for about 10 min. Then gently swirl again and place THEM in your aquarium.I'm posting picture of mine I did a year ago. This pic. is 6 months old. :) I still have them both and I need to get rid of one because they are both big again. After i do, I'll be dividing the other one again and I will post pics of the process..

brian,

so what is the downside if the caveman doesn't split them correctly??
(and to think I would escape the GEICO ads in this forum) :D:D

As long as you follow my instructions carefully, you will be fine. The trickiest part of it, is removing the anem. from the rock that he is attached to. And I don't think that you can even make a mistake doing that. The trick is to get your finger in between it and the rock by aggravating it to want to move.Find the point where anem. meets the rock with your finger and just work it until it releases it's grip a little, then you can get your finger under a little farther then keep repeating until it lets go.In fact, after I divided my anem. and sold half a year ago, as I was removing the anem from the rock, which I was doing while the guy was watching and I was trying to hurry, I accidentally poked my finger through his foot. Cloudy stuff came out of him and I told the guy if it didn't make it I would split mine and give him one. Well 2 weeks later he called and I thought OH $hi&, Well he continued to tell me that it finished splitting on it's own and now he has 2. The guy works in a LFS and I still see him. Both anems are doing great. When I decide to split my anem. again, which will be soon, I think I'm going to contact Geico and let the hairy dood just do it. ;)
