I am looking into making a wood tank and have one questions so far.

I am thinking of making the panel larger than in the picture below and making it 86"x60" giving me a viewable hight of 50-52" instead of 42"

How thick does the panel have to be with either a 86" x 48" or 86"x60" panel? I am looking at making it out of acrylic and the brown in the picture would be made of wood. The water level would be over the top of the panel. Can I use a 1" thick panel? or would I need thicker? Standard sizes that I found are 96"x48"x1" which is cheaper than getting something 60" so I am thinking the 48" maybe the better way to go just for price. What do you all think?

I would highly suggest you venture to ReefCentral, and look at the large tank threads for reference. I was recently reviewing a tank build done by a fellow in Colorado. What you are proposing is very similar to what he has done, and his efforts would be well considered if you choose to go that way. Best of luck, Dan

Thanks for the reply, I visit that area all the time but have not seen a tall tank like that. I will look around for it.
