I've been re-doing a tank these past couple of days and have the rock stacked in rubbermaid containers. Today I was putting rock back in the tank and ran into this critter. Can't believe I had my hand in with it!

It's some sort of worm and it poops green pellets and lots of them. It has millions of legs and is over two foot long! It has a cute face though with eyes and a mouth.

Anyone know what it is and what I should do with it? It's currently trying to crawl up the side of the container I put it in for the pictures.

It almost looks like an AMAZINGLY large bristle worm...but i dont know if they get that big?

Good luck to ya Vicki:D

Hey Colleen. No, it wasn't in any of the rocks I got from you. They all had corals attached and those were all left in the tank.

Augustus.... It's NOT a bristleworm. I've run in to plenty of those and this thing is very different. It's not bristily (is that a word?) at all. It actually looks kind of soft.

Anyone know what this is? It's still trying to get out of the container!
Gotta find something else to put it in.

Huh, I missed the part about the cute face and eyes.. lol

I was going to say how bad can IT be when it's pooping green aka algae

Awe, it's so cute. Did you name it?? Definitely good you got it out. I have to think if it is pooping green it may be an algae eater or detrivore rather than a carnivore. So what are you going to do with it? Take it to UW? Make a casting? Run it over with a car? :D

Actually, I just set 'him' up in a Nano tank. Just what I need is one more tank. I did catch the eels out of the 450, suppose I could put this new critter in with them. Haven't figured out yet what I'm going to do with him. Need to find out if he's good or bad first.

Good or bad? How about ugly, and get the hell out of my house? Would be interesting to see if the eels each slurp up one end, and kiss in the middle!

But he's a 'critter', and I like critters as long as they don't surprise me.

from some pictures I can find, It looks more like the family of the orange hawian fire worm....hard to find info...and there are sooo many variations....

Look at the head and see if it loks like this, if so a Eunicid.

I will PM LeslieH shortly.

I don't think it's a Eunicid though. It's head doesn't look like that.

In researching Google Images I think it might be a Phyllodocidae; whatever that is. Couldn't find much information on them other than it was thought they were a "meat eater". Also, that they could produce a slime coat, which this one certainly can do.

I'm keeping it alone in a nano tank and will try feeding it something later tonight. I had thrown in a ball of chaeto and the worm crawled right into it and through it and around it too. Long critter.

Hopefully Leslie will join in and tell me for sure what I've got and maybe even what to do with it!
