no way, my aqua-logic surged to about 21 amps & ran slightly over 5 amps.
I also measured a few others on start up & they all surge really high.

I'd either use an external pump for the sump return like maybe a pan-world or eheim 1262, depending on how much head you may need more or less gph.
On a tank this size a dart or a sq4200 would work well just remember to allow for at least two 1 /2" bh's tied into a 2" pvc for the suction of the pump, otherwise you'll loose lots of gph restricting the plumbing.

yea aqualogic are expensive and use alot of power but they are great, i have a friend that one 3/4 hp we plubmed it outside.

1/4 hr shoulb be around 9-10amps to start up and bout 6-7 constant while its on.

gotta disagree...

Dart is rated for 3600gph. Min drain calculator size says 2.48".
Granted, the dart would be running in suction mode, and overcome some of the restriction.

160gph yields .52" drain...... times 2= 320gph. Yes, the dart would suck through the 1/2" drains, but not really do what it's supposed to.

I would use 2 1.5in drains so the pump dont have to work at all. Imo

What pump you "need" is dependant upon sooo many things. Engineer what you are going to have and use that to determine what you need:

Actually the Aqualogic has the highest BTU to power consumed on the market & consumes the Least amount of power once running but the surge as in all chillers isn't near 6 to 9 as you say but more line 21 22 inrush amps, just put a good quality fluke meter on one & see for yourself!

Also, your 36 turns assumes zero loss to friction/head pressure/etc.

I would surmise you will arrive far below that..... unless you (or someone) properly engineer the system.

I'm just getting ideas here befor I go and blow money on stuff that doesn;t work or don't need.
That is all, I just need help!
What I don't want is to set this thing up and be changing ALOT of stuff after there is water in it.
I know I prolly have a few adjustments and what not but I don't want to have to REPLUMB after live rock and saltwater?
And my wife says "NO POWERHEADS"
