What type of carbon?

pellet Kent Marine for 8 years for me no issue,,till i try lignite for couple of weeks,,problem and i do not like it go back to Kent pellet,,problem stop,,just from my experience

Rox is perfect for guys like me that use mesh bags to hold the carbon.
Lignite would be better used for those running carbon in a reactor.

I concur. I ran through a few containers of ROX in my reactor before switching to lignite. No change in parameters and lignite is considerably cheaper if buying from BRS.

I don't have reactor... always done mesh bags. Are you all saying I should go with lignite and invest in reactor??? I am okay with that. Give me then (please) suggestions on simple quality reactors.

Anyone have a good picture of their carbon reactor setup or do most prefer hanging it in a bag in the sump?

What are the negative sides to running carbon if any??

I run BRS lignite carbon and BRS GFO in one of their Deluxe Reactors. Frankly, I think that any of their reactors will work but I recommend individual reactors for each form of media you plan to use so that you can more precisely control water flow through that media. Mine are both driven by a Maxi Jet 1200.

The only carbon they sell here is black diamond which I have always used with no problems. Guess it is a good thing it works for my application LOL! :)

I was using Bulk Reef Lignite carbon until Monday. Then I switched over to the ROX .08 stuff and WOW!!! Definatley would recommend the ROX from BRS.

If you want to run the ROX in a reactor you can do so. You just need to get a finer mesh or use some filter floss to hold the carbon in check and from excaping the reactor chamber.

It's pretty clear. Boomer recommends ROX only, All others are not good for the hobby in his opinion.
After taking his advice two years ago and trying it, I agree and don't see the point in using any other GAC. ROX is affordable, and has the properties best suited for our purposes.

What I was saying was I'm the one that introduced ROX to this hobby, BRS is just selling it after reading many of my posts on it. Other GAC's are fine , like Acid Washed Lignite, SeaChem labs Matrix or TLF Hydrocarbon. It is just that for this hobby ROX is the best if you want to pay for it.

I do no introduce **** GAC into the hobby

Should have been........ I do not introduce Sh*t GAC into the hobby
