What will be the next plague?

LOL gee thanks???

trace elements (we don't know what they are, can't measure them, but our tanks will die if they aren't replenished!)
Dont know if that is a true statement or not. their is so much not known abotu what they do or dont do. Look for some new neat discoveries in the near future however with the new microscope out now.

heavy metals (we think we know what they are, may or not be able to measure them, and their buildup are probably why tanks decline with time. Therefore, they must be removed!)
Well this one I definately dont believe to be true.

phosphates (we can measure them, but they may still be there even if the test says zero, so we must remove them to allow our corals to grow better and to prevent the growth of nuisance algae)
Phosphates can be measure while inorganic, once bound to an organic they can be measured. Most corals will grow just fine with P, most actually require P in order to grow. For corals that waste calcium having high levels is not good plan however. and yep algae sure loves it.

As per old plagues, most were from ignorance or trying new equipment or chemicals. You did see alot of fish diseases but their wasnt much in the way of corals stuff.

Those statements were my paraphrasing of things I had read or been told. To me, each statement contained some truths and some not-so-truths.

But I'm surprised to hear that there haven't been any big (chemical) issues before the trace elements stuff about 4 or 5 years ago.

The next plauge will be a massive move of reefkeepers towards the bare-bottom method....

I'd better go hide....

I believe it will have something to do with ducks.......
LOL
Seriously I think it will be resistant strains of bacteria. The wholsalers move alot of fish in and out, so do fish stores. Alot of treatments are added along the way. The bacteria that survive and are able to live thru it may run rampant. Just a thought.
Unless its the ducks.

Hahaha and now you've been infected......BB boy :D. BTW, I'm still waiting for the sand :)

Here's a question that might pertain. When livestock comes in to the US, do the places that hold the stock ever clean out their systems? Perge everything, give it a good scrub-down and set-up again? Just curious as to how far (at least for parasites) back in the food chain these things are.

very true.

LOL thier were Don I was just trying to hide them all under the catagory of ignorance. Most of the old days were in the mode of discovery and trial and error. Thier was no internet or even detailed books so we were in the dark for the most part on what worked, what was needed and so on. that list is a very long one, as fish had been around alot longer most of the diseases and plagues were related to them.

Agreed Steve but I would lean more towards parasites such as protozoans, since they are more preditory and thier are so many varities.

Back then, you guys were making up your own salt mixes, starting with table salt, right?
