I don't know why, with such clarity, we remember exactly where we were, what we were doing, etc. at times of human tragedy, yet at no other times, in our past. I suppose it's human nature.

For me, some of those memories include Mt. St Helens erupting, President Reagan being shot, of course 9-11 and....

25 years ago, today, I was a junior in high school, DJing from our high school radio station. I was watching the space shuttle Challenger launch, while also reporting it, on the air. It was the first, and only time, any of my listeners heard silence, which was bad in radio. I vividly remember that silence, it lasted a long time. Then I remember the exact words I said, as I reported the tragedy of the Challenger exploding. It was such a surreal experience. I still remember the grief I felt, in the pit of my stomach.

Let's all remember the 7 men and women, to bravely journeyed into space, that morning, and the tragedy that struck all of America, on this day, 25 years ago.

I was in the army. I remember with crystal clarity hearing the news and the empty sick feeling that came with it. It seemed impossible.

Was on vacation with my business partner and wives in Cozumel Mexico, Had just come back from a wall dive on Palancar Reef

Recall the utter shock, we discussed our fear for the revived space program's survival

Umm...25 years ago I was 8 . I was probably in school. The funny thing is I never imagined it being that long ago. I guess where I had seen it so much on tv from time to time, it made it seem like it wasn't so long ago. Very sad tragedy :(. At 8 years old, I wouldn't have understood the magnitude of something like that. 9/11 was a different story. I can remember exactly what I was doing that day. My IBS went into over drive! It was insane! Not sure if any of you heard this so not sure if there is any truth to it, but anyone heard of a special space craft that was made that people can pay to go for a short flight into outer space and then return right back to earth? I think I was told two at a time?

I was in the student community center at Green River Community College killing time between classes playing a video game when I noticed something strange on the big screen tv at the end of the area I was in. I remember walking away from the game still in play and just staring at the tv for an hour not wanting to believe what was being shown and the tingling running down my back over and over. Wow I actually still get it a bit. Horrifying day for sure.

I was 25, single and worry free hanging out deep in the Jungle south of Puerto Vallarta with Arnold, Jesse, Carl, Maria Concita mmmm on the set of Predator they were preparing to film the big Firefight and Explosion scenes. Everyone had to leave the area so a bunch of us headed into town to hang out at the Tequila bar and saw this horific explosion on the TV, our group all went silent then were shocked to see that this had occurred two days earlier.
I was just entering the park heading up to Paradise on Mt Rainier when St Helens blew on my brand spanking new motorcycle and truely believed that it would be my last day amongst the living. Spent the night in Morton and creeped out next day towards home then spent hours cleaning ash off of/out of bike.

Just reading this thread and responding to it brings up alot of old memmories to all the BIG HEADLINE events that have taken place in my lifetime. I can still remember the fall of Saigon during the Viet Nam conflict and hoping my uncle was OK and would be coming home, my family watched the nightly news for months on end for any & all information about the war where all four of my uncles were doing tours in different branches. All in all I was very lucky to have been at the in between age of Viet Nam and the 1st Gulf War where many of my friends little brothers did thier service.

With much THANKS & APPRECIATION for all our Military Members, Todd

25 years ago i was 5 years old!!!!

on 9/11 i was installing a washing machine in a customers garage when they told us to stop what we were doing and to watch the news with them. at that point the second plane hit and i was like we are goin to war!!!

I remeber it like it was yesterday. I was sitting in the cab of my dump truck listening to the radio as we were paving a driveway on Shady lake. I have been to Kennedy Space center as a photographer and photographed a launch from the press area and let me tell you it was the second most amazing thing that I have ever seen. The press area is 3 miles from the pad which is closer than anyone can get besides the couple of people in a bunker that are pretty close to the pad and of course the crew of the shuttle. The launch I saw was the Hubble Space Telescope. Here is one of the pics I took.

Thank you Sid. I did a double exposure the moon was 45 degrees to the right. When I got the film developed I was quite happy with the result.
