I was checkin' out the ol' tankaruni today and I notices a couple of spots that were collecting poo so I fanned them with my hand and I noticed a large piece that wouldn't blow away. As I took a closer look I noticed it was a seastar! It has brown and white striped and looks fuzzy. I thought this was pretty cool since my live rock is not in my tank yet. I also found a little snail that has a black and white shell.

I did get a 2" diameter piece of what looks to me (an untrained eye) like dead acro(something) sps with my live rock and put that in right away. I'm guessing this is where they came from. Either that or they hitched a ride with my cleaning crew.

Anyway, I'm just excited to have free living things to look at now. :D

that's another reason why I'm excited about this hobby. you never know what's going to happen with free stuff to look at!(and take care of!)

Welcome Varpanus.

 Ya I knew eventually it would happen, just didn't think so soon with just a small piece of LR.

i love to check out my tank a realize that there are some new "additions" that is didnt make its amazing how life seems to find a way, and how true that it is that you have created not a fish tank but an ecosystem

Excellent! Hitchhikers are awesome. You never know what you'll see pop up next...and some aren't so exciting or fun to have lolol. The little star you found is a great addition. They stay small, and you will likely find many of them reaching their arms out when you feed.

Speaking of hitchhikers I just removed a 4" decorator crab from my tank. I have not added any rock in over a year so he had stayed out of sight all this time.

Ya well I can imagine you might have a couple of hiding spots in 1100lbs of LR!!!

i have also found some crabs and a pencil urchin(that as soon as i find again will be moved). what did you do with the decorator anyways? i had one in my first tank(fish only) and he was the coolest thing ever! he would put peices of algae and stuff on his back and then my tang would try to eat the stuff off of his back! it was great comedy.(kind of a pointless story)
