Why doe's everyone post pic's of corals with the actinic LED's turned all the way up????? I know they glow in the tank but cameras don't do well with actinics. And they try to sell there corals as high colored ,high end corals , but they are just bright under actinic LED's.......There's not LED's in the ocean.......I'm just ranting about this because people try to sell average corals as high end because they look great under there Actinic LED's...........Then you get them home and they are dull under normal lighting and not even High end or bright. I have gotten corals that were from LED tanks and put them under my T5's with LED actinic supplement and they need 3 months to color back up. I think LED's are great for saving money ,but think in the long run we will find out that they are bad for corals....JMO.

well years ago i went to one of the frag swaps. the people that did have leds that were selling coral. they did sell way more coral. i did fall for that trick. i bought a bunch of coral. when i got home put them in my tank. i said what. back then i was running 3 400 watt mh. well i liked the look of the corals under leds so much that i did go buy 4 led units to put on my big tank. i guess thats why everyone doesnt have the same set ups. to each is there own. it would be a boring world if everyone did everything the same and bought the same thing or the same color. just think if everyone bought the same house and car and painted the same color. it would be plain. right

I dont think LED's are bad for corals at all. I do however think that half of the pictures taken now days look like crap because there is way too much blue. With MH a 10k bulb doesnt bring out the color in most corals nearly as much as a 20k bulb. The same goes with LED's. I can adjust the noon day spectrum with my LED's to range from 4500K up to 50K but prefer somewhere between 14-20K. I also take all my pictures with the spectrum in this range because IMO pure blue pictures (50K) look like crap.

Hey Bill, either use a camera that has a white balance setting or software editor to knock out the blue to naturalize the images. Trick is to adjust first pointing at the sandbed since it reflects true white balance. And regarding LEDs, :nono: reserve comment till you visit me for more coral that have been under LED for 11 months now.

No, the ocean doesn't have LED lighting. Nor does it have MH, T5 or VHO.

We do our best to attempt to reproduce natural sunlight, with whatever lighting we feel is best. LEDs do tend to produce more of a blue glow than most other lighting options. However, it's up to the consumer to be aware of this. Most hobbyists, who have been in the hobby for any length of time, know that a coral will look different under every different type of lighting. A coral from my 200, under T5s, will look different, even in another tank, also under T5s.

+1 Type of camera is key (then some do run heavy blue) but after buying a better camera and some advice from here on the forum my pictures are TRUER than blue. I figured after spending so much on corals, fish, and equipment perhaps i direct some of that funding towards a nice camera.
