Hi all,

I was wondering what the chances are that a medium-sized RBTA hosting a clownfish would eat a mandarin fish in a 150 gallon reef tank. I know that it CAN happen, but I'm trying to decide if it's worth the risk...

Thanks for the help. :)

I had a mandarin with a 12" RBTA in an 80 gallons for 2 years with no issues...

Any anemone is capable of eating fish. Slow moving Mandarins are usually not recommended in tanks with anemones. That being said, I've seen hundreds of Mandarins in tanks with anemones. I've had one in my 46 with an RBTA or 2 (because of splitting) for over 2 years with no troubles at all.

I would think that the anemonefish would keep the mandarin away? I'm currently in the process of setting up a 240 and both of these animals are on 'The List.'

More importantly regarding mandarins is not the anemone, it is can you keep it well fed?
They require an enormous amount of very tiny pods and that requires a large quantity of live rock and or a big refugium. A 150 sounds good, hope you have a lot of rock in it.

I agree with fishyfishy. I had a 200g with 160 lbs of rock and had to supplement 1 mandarin because he smoked through the population in about 3 months.

I remember that Rock! It's now scheduled to be going into in Krisfal's new 390 tank.
How is Hawaii treating you?
