I have pretty much decided that I would to DIY the vast majority of this build. I like the idea of doing a peninsula style, so here is my design idea for the stand and canopy. Any comments and critiques are encouraged and if you have any questions let me know.

looks like a good start. what do you plan for lights, skimmer, sump/return pump? do you know you can drill that tank? it's easier than most think. i've drilled several holes in both a 40 i had and my 500. do you have the tank yet?

Lights are for sure going to be LEDS. No idea on the skimmer yet, was thinking Reef Octopus XP1000 but haven't done enough research yet. I have a 20 long that I was thinking about using as a sump but I may buy a 29g because I would have the extra space. No idea on return pump yet. I definitely plan on drilling the tank, no doubt about that. I already have the 40B.

Wow, this awesome! Let me know if you need any help. DIY is my real passion. I would like to build a similar tank eventually, i love the dimensions of a 40g tank.

Thanks bud. Once I start building the stand I will be sure to give you a call. DIY is in my blood, cars are my profession and hobby lol.

The 40B really does have amazing dimensions, I was impressed when I first saw it. My true dream tank would be 48x24x24.

I would have to agree with your dream tanks dimensions, that sounds sweet. I don't know cars very well myself, but i'm a die hard diy're so i managed to pull my transmission out of my acura integra, rebuild it and put a new clutch in. I did that a couple weeks ago. It took me nearly a week to do it, but I was pretty happy when I put everything together and did a celebratory burn out!

LOL! Very nice. It sure it rewarding, but the gf thinks I have far too many hobbies now. I am trying to decided now if I want either a new DSLR or an Neptune APEX system....hmmmm choices.

Get an aqua lite. They seem very affordable. I read about another controller that should be coming out soon and is supposed to retail for around $150, and connects to your home network and everything. I want something I can monitor from my ipad.

Woops, that must be the one I was thinking of. You can find some quality ph probes for around $40 for it. I have seen it for as low as $120, so you could have a nice monitor for $160.

I am thinking about upgrading my 29g to a 40b or 50b.... I will be following along to see how the build goes.....

I was taking a look at glasscages.com last night. Ive always wanted a 48" long tank, and there are quite a few that are very affordable, but shipping kills the deal. It looks like a 40b is the best dimensions for the money. A 30 long is a very cool frag tank too. Let me know if you come across a glass hole cutter. I used to have one from drilling a 29g bio cube but I got rid of it, now I just want to play around with building a refugium, but I need to cut holes

Montana glass cuts holes for 10 bucks a hole. I haven't decided if I will have them do it or not.

That's not a bad deal. I paid around $10 on ebay for my last hole cutter. I may go that route if I can find a good tank to use for a refugium/sump
