What i want to do is build a good size tank, about 800 gallons or so. I'm young and don't really have the funds to build a tank that size completly out of acyrlic. Try to picture this.... What i wanted to know is is it possible to have one end and one lenght built out of acrylic and the other parts such as the back, bottom and opposite end built out of something else. I was thinking that perhaps I could find some kind of plastic or maybe just thinner acrylic, seal it together as i would the tank and then reinforce those areas with plywood and studds running along the backs. So for the front length and the one end i would use about 1" acrylic. Give me your thoughts and let me know what you think. Forgive me if i just confused.

Thanks

CJG,
Some people will make their tanks out of plywood sealed with fiberglass. Do a search on plywood tanks and you should be able to find some information.

Just my advice, you dont have to take it at all. The tank is normally the smallest investment you will make. It is like a house for your fish and coral. Probley for the cost you could get a smaller tank, with all the trimmings, for what it would cost to build yourself a 800 gallon tank. I mean were talking 8000 lbs, plus a whole circuit panel dedicated to this one tank. Reinforcing floors and running all that wiring is going to cost alot of money. Take all of that into account before you start. Plus what happens if you move? HTH in some way Steve
